Discounted plants, whats the most discounted you've bought?
Ok heres a blog entry.
Just want to see whats the most discounted plant you have bought recently.
Heres one worth a mention, might add it my trellis for next year if it recovers the abuse and lack of care that some big stores seem to give thier own merchandice.
How about £5.00 down to 50p (a 90% discount), although near to death. probably 1 day to live left. A clemetis Pixie

I always look in the bargain/discounted sections of garden centres, and over the years I have found some great bargains. One of the best one was a large palm in a very nice patio tub, it was in the reduced bit at Homebase but had no price, the assistant scanned it and it came up as 99p she called the manager, he scanned it 99p so they let me have it at 99p - bargain but more like a fluke.
One of my recent best buys was a weeping tree which had gone past its pussy willow stage so the garden centre had it reduced from £17 to £5, I cannt wait for next spring.
Finding plant bargains is one of my favourite parts of gardening - village fetes and carboot sales are great sources.
But please never ever order from gardenbargains.com - see one of my blogs with my on going saga of my order for bedding plants.

I bought a shrub from our local Hiller's last autumn, reduced from £11:99 to £2 in the 'reduced' section. Even the woman on the till couldn't see what was wrong with it

I very rarely buy any bargains as I'm not too good at nursing them back to health! A plant has to be in fairly robust condition to start with in order to survive with me I'm afraid! I always envy people who can revive something that's half dead.

4 Coreopsis major for $1.25 each at WalMart last week. Still had some buds on them & it's a perennial, so I thought, why not. Sometimes I get free plants off of Freecycle. Sometimes I just dig them up from the property surrounding my office since everything gets mowed down anyway. Oh, and some 75% dead houseplants - simply labeled "HELP" - on the bargain table at Lowe's. Big tropical-looking plants for maybe $3. I always figure that if something looks bad, if I just cut it down to the ground it might regenerate & look OK eventually.

And very pretty she is too Stevie. Thank you. Fingers crossed I can get her to flower and keep her away from deep frosty winter nights and howling gales.
Google says she likes to be out of the wind, south or west facing and quite likes to cascade from a pot!

This might not count, as I didn't buy it - it was FREE! A hanging pot with sorry looking red and white surfinias was being given away at my local Tesco when I called in one evening (last year) Bit garish for my taste, but never look a gift horse..... They did recover.
