Autumn Days

Just over the north-west Worcestershire border with Shropshire; where the steam train runs along side the River Severn flowing so delightfully; crossing over the river on a footbridge, with a wonderful view of the valley, there is a lovely walk along the gentle river:

Looking through the trees a few yards further on:

Taking the road through the small village of Arley where very few cars venture, along the driveway towards ‘Arley House’ you are met by an unusual sight:

Through the gateway guinea fowl roam hungrily hoping for a morsel of the delicious cakes [more of that later]

Through into the walled Italian garden, with its urns of trailing plants:

And leaf-covered walls:

You cannot miss the fountain, a real beauty and a wonderful place to sit and watch the sparkling water:

Tiny chicks wander freely and seemingly fearlessly across the grass:

A quick return to the fountain splashing as though it wished to celebrate:

Through into the arboretum itself with its magnificent trees:

Golden light shining through the ginko leaves:

And a wonderful ceiling of leaves cover the sky.

Trees so tall and so majestic:

Looking across the old well and small pool:

Those golden leaves shimmering overhead were a constant delight:

The old beech tree with its ancient trunk was the perfect place to look across the valley, listening to birds calling and the puff puff of the steam train

Elegant and lovely pine trees remind me of where I grew up and never fail to bring back the memories of playing in the woods all day:

Jewel-like red leaves glow against a perfect blue sky:

Golden autumn mixed with summer green:

This Liriodendron Tulipifera [Tulip Tree] from North America was simply stunning:

Everywhere was delicacy and the intricate lacy patterns of seeds, leaves and the tracery of fine twigs:

The small pond:

Beneath the boundless sky:

Was a field of pheasants ~ I must have counted 20 or more:

Around the greenhouse area was another walled garden with tall and graceful grasses:

A magnificent display of autumn colour in and up the walls:

Low October sunlight danced on the leaves:

I very nearly missed these, I was so entranced with the golden leaves above; that the little colchiums surrounding the tulip tree were almost overlooked [literally]

At certain times of the day the fountain shoots higher; but as the sun moved round, to me it was a never-ending delight:

No trip would be quite complete without a little stop ~ you know where I am going to take you next ~ it was delicious!

And then back in time to the age of steam and the Severn-Valley railway:

A place I loved and hope to return to; with its magnificent trees, fresh air and a sense of an age long ago.

What a fab blog Sticki, your photos are simply incredible, you have a good eye. Love the Ginko pic. just fab. and of course the steam railway, we live for, love and adore steam trains and always holiday where there is one.We have been on the severn valley often as my brother used to live in Henley-in-arden but has moved since, and we always went there for a day out with our children. Lovely.

Lovely photographs of two of our favourite counties, must show OH!! a perfect day by the look of it too....rather worried about the size of the Tulip tree, might have to move if it ever gets as large as the one in your photos, we have a ginko, but we are growing this as a standard, which was a wise decision!! thanks for a very uplifting blog Sticki.
