SAY HELLO TO THE NEW BOG GARDEN.......

As you may, or may not recall, we decided to move the pond (small whiskey barrel) the whole area had become so overgrown, the wet weather had not helped, the trouble was the plants just loved the heavy wet clay, so out it came……
The next job was to take up the path, and lay some more scalpings…..
When that was done, Oh put down the pebbles, leaving some planting area for me……..this is the part I really enjoy!!
I wanted it to be a modern bog garden, so OH took out Gary the Gunnera a couple of Rheums, and planted those, we already had a lovely white Zantedeschia growing very happily in the wet clay also my favourite Equisetum, so those were moved around, added a couple of grasses, a couple of Heucheras and a Heucherella, for colour and put back the Astilbes which love it there……..moved in some rocks.
The pond has been moved up the side, painted the same dark oak as the fence, and will stay as a small raised pond, no doubt everything will get far too large again, but, it wont be swamping the pond any more……….Gary will have more room to reach for the sky now, we are still hoping to put in another pond, a little rest first I think!!
Hope you enjoyed looking at our adventures, stay warm this weekend…

It will be having a few tweeks no doubt when the spring comes, have several small plants in pots looking for a damp place to live, also a disgruntled frog!!

It somehow looks so much larger Dotty, must be the shingle adding light to it. Fabulous job, beautifully done. This side section has had a real makeover and what a difference! Your garden just gets better and better..Really hope to revisit sometime again..Love the new look! Well done to you both. (Have just added Cordyline blog you asked me about my friend..)\0/x

I agree it does look larger, lighter and so fresh looking Dd, job well done and I think you will only rest whilst the weather is drab, a bit of sunshine and you`ll be looking for something else to tweak, lol...

what a difference Dotty, its a lovely area now even though i thought so before, your beach pebble area makes mine look naf lol, think its because mine are all large stones where as you have the finer shingle then large stonesa round plants, much nicer.
love your finished look :o))

That's looking great. You don't sit down much do you :))
That gunnera will love all the room it has now.
So I'll await the unveiling of what you are going to do with your barrel and I hope Mr toad doesn't give you too much of a hard time to get it finished :)

You have made a huge difference to a lovely space. What vision, to be able to visualise what you wanted to achieve.
Very attractive.

Sixpence, it must be the pebbles they do lift the area now....Wildrose thank you, I do enjoy that part, I must say. Scottish the frog was on the door step the other night, frightened the life out of me when it jumped!! the barrel has a water lily and several plants in at the moment, and all doing well.
Thanks San, I am always changing the stones, I am so fussy it drives OH mental!!
Lincs your getting to know me too well!! we still have some fencing to do but that is a job for OH......
Petal I only show you the tidy parts of the garden lol
Thanks Snoopdog, Michaela, and Motty, Cinders it was lovely when we first did it, I was very pleased, but after this year's weather it had become horribly untidy, and you could not see the little pond at all.......
Flori I think taking out the path, which divided the area up, has made it look much wider, would love a visit from you both at any time.......you know that my dear. x

Love the make over Dottie. The plants will soon grow well in their new home. Perhaps the little frog was looking for a stone to live under. Sometimes its nice to change things round a bit in the garden, Bit like sorting out the wardrobe and getting a few new clothes.....LOL, but using a bit more energy in the garden......

Yes I think I like that Dotty. I liked it before, but can understand your wanting to change it. Very modern now.
