*This morning my family and I went to a Charity Fun Dog show held at the Rare Breed Centre at Woodchurch, run by the Canterbury Oast Trust. This Trust looks after and employs adults with learning and physical difficulties. They also run a restaurant in nearby Rye.

None of us had been to any sort of dog show for years so really didn’t know what to expect. There were dogs (and owners!) of all shapes and sizes.

Millie did well, winning four rosettes in different classes.*

*First, second and third places were also given a bag of dog food so both Stig and Millie were pleased about that. Stig didn’t enter the ‘sausage eating’ section as he doesn’t like taking food from strangers :)

It was a good day out, the weather stayed dry until we reached home, and hopefully the Trust have gained a lot of money towards the excellent work they do.*

That sounds a really fun sort of dogshow, especially the sausages eating bit Gee. I have a nuisance creature in my garden now. A squirrel chewing the plastic surrounds on my bird feeders to get at the sunflower seeds. They have been in use for ages....so annoying.

Good charity dog shows wins, Gee...
... and for a very worthy cause...

Congrats. to Millie and Stig ...

you'll be hooked now ...
Millie will be keen to enter more similar shows ...

A pity there are few charity dog shows over the winter, but they'll start up again around April timeframe next year ... :o)

Thanks for your comments, it was great fun and I was proud of Millie, not so much for the rosettes but because she is so much more relaxed and comfortable with other dogs/people than she was 3 months ago when I first brought her home. She's a treasure :)

very well done Gee~ it makes all the difference when they are rehomed to a loving owner.
We were recently over at Llys Nini where my son in law is manager and they had this fantastic Dog de Bordeaux brought in recently~ three years old and strapping, his owner had lost his job and couldn't look after him properly so he handed him in.~sad isn't it because he had been well looked after....
A couple with acres of land were keen to take him on and had brought their family including grandchildren to see him and socialise~ everyone sounded really happy when we left...

I felt very sad to hear of someone having to give up a much loved pet, Arlene, but so much more responsible than just dumping it somewhere. It sounds as if it is likely to be rehomed to another loving family - fingers crossed, it's a very large dog to take on.

When we returned home yesterday Millie went straight to bed and slept (apart from mealtime!) until 11pm last night. Then she decided it was time to play :)

Great blog Gee, what lovely dogs you have, I think they should have won firsts!:-)))

Thank you, Bornagain, I think so too but then I am biased :) Stig is my daughter's dog but has been a great help giving Millie confidence and he is a frequent visitor (and overnight lodger) in my home.

When we first had Meg, she was very afraid and I think she had not been socialised at all, possibly a brood bitch. She copied Rosie and eventually came to love people and children. She's a happy, quite confident girl now:-)
