great picture of that robin ~ must be a special red streak in your garden?

When we moved to our last new house we built it on what was part of a field with apples trees , we sowed the lawn with grass seed, the grass came up red much to our surprise ... we had experts on hand who informed us that it was the acid in the soil from years of fallen apples , do you know if anything like that was growing on your land in years gone by Gee ?
I love the Robin pic.. :o))

I think, most of the Shrubs are all looking lovely this year..
Colours are amazing, & so many berries about...they do
say lots of berries on bushes, & lots of beautiful colours do
mean that we are going to have a hard winter!!!
So we had better be prepared...lol 'your Ivy does look that
bit extra special, with changing to red in places...green in
summer...red in Winter..the dogwood is a beautiful shrub, loses it's leaves so you end up with lovely red stems through the winter....Nature is wonderful, especially
in Autumn Gee...nice pics & enjoyed your blog too.may i add..the little Robin looks like a fledgling Gee...

I think this autumn is especially lovely and the touches of red are beautiful if unusual, Robin is handsome ! Nice blog Gee.

Wonderful pics as usual Gee, I agree with Freesia the Robin does look young and need lots of fatteneing up for the winter, which I m sure you will be obliging with Gee!

Great robin pic - weird about the plants! Nice blog :o)

Thanks for sharing it with us, Gee. I can't explain the strange happenings, though!

I am definitely trying to fatten up Robin and all his friends, PP. I have just finished building a new bird table (started in the summer but roofless since then!) so that should help too :) It will be interesting to see what happens to the plants next spring/summer when new growth comes through.

a red bird table?
perhaps you could have one of those red japanese type pagodas?
6 Nov, 2010
Wish I'd thought of that, Stickitoffee! The bird table is painted green and recycled green :)

green would be lovely ~ red may be overkill???!! ;o)

Gee as soon as I saw your `red` ivy I thought you had had a root from Karensusan. She had some in a wall pot next to here shed and that was a red colour. Something definately strange going on.lol.

Thanks for telling me that, Stroller. I've just checked out Karensusan's ivy - very strange :)

strange but pretty leaves gee... lovely Robin pic.......

I've had this pink colour on ivy in the past. I don't know what causes it. Maybe cold or dryness ?
Also re the dogwood. Is it only one branch that's affected ?
I know with fuchsias sometimes one branch will produce different coloured flowers, or a variegation. It's called a sport.
It's possible to take cuttings from it and grow them on. It happened to one of mine - salmon and cream flowers became pink on one branch. It's something genetic I believe.
I would enjoy the different colours as long as the plants remain healthy.

Am so glad to see that the red red Robin is still the same, lol!!!! :-)))

Thanks for that info, Hywel. It is only one stem that has pink/red leaves so I will try and take some stem cuttings in the spring.

Good luck Gee, Maybe it will grow into a nice bush

We have ONE branch on our variegated dogwood that has turned pink for the first time this year too Gee. I wouldn't have thought of taking a cutting, but it's worth a try. Lovely pics.
