Famous last words....

Update
I put together the above blog on 13 (!) November but as I went to upload it to GoY, all the little blue lights on my computer faded. I am not someone who swears but my thoughts were rather blue at the time.
Being an expensive time of year what with Christmas, new specs and heating, etc etc I was reluctant to embark on too many investigations as to what the problem was but in the end it turned out to be a faulty cable. Cheap to replace as it turned out :).
Since I wrote the blog we have had lots of rain and, more recently, heavy frosts so most of the garden colour has now gone. My greenhouse has still not been repaired although it has been promised for next week, two months after the branch fell down!
I hope you are all keeping well and warm and look forward to trying to do some catching up. At least being ‘computerless’ has meant I have caught up with some other jobs :)

Oh dear, one thing after the other, a few folk have had a touch of the gremlins recently............
I went to Kent in october and came across the Canal, something I hadn't heard of and found very interesting
Somewhere else we went to that was new to us all was Samphire Hoe.......fascinating how it has all come alive, and very odd to watch the waves so close, a bit like being on a boat......my mobile phone dinged and welcomed me to France.......

Welcome back - there's always something we can do without at this time of the year isn't there!!!!
Pleased you computer is up and running again - had similar bother with the power cable last year - except I stood on it!!!!
Your new heucheras are lovely - I have some geums which were going to flower again - but almost 2 weeks of constant frost soon put paid to them!!
I hope you get your greenhouse issues over and done with soon.

Hello Gee you have been missed ! I'm pleased you are able to use your computer again , I'm sorry you still have problems with your green house fingers crossed it will be fixed next week , I put one photo on a few weeks ago using your powerpoint lesson ( do you remember ?) an Autumn pathway with cats on it .. :o))

Very refreshing blog. I love your flowers, which are still blooming and that arched seat is just one I dream of for some time...Lovely blog. Hope, you will soon make your computer wrk properly.

Glad your computer problems are sorted. Sounds like what's happening here this evening - two or three minutes on and then the connection breaks, and emails won't download either.
It was nice to see your flowers to brighten up a dull evening.

Thank you all, it's nice to be computerised again! I've just popped back to see your cat photo, Amy, and I think its brilliant, especially that one sitting so neatly up the tree. It is fun to do, isn't it?
The arched seat was a retirement present, Katarina, although I must admit it has been used more to stand plants on than to sit on - now it is moved away from the greenhouse I might use it for its proper purpose more :)

Oooooh computers are so frustrating aren't they Gee, but glad you have had things fixed now. I think seeing flowers in our gardens via blogs during the winter time is a good thing it cheers us up and then we can dream of spring time and things ahead. No need to do much outside just now, it is time to reflect and read gardening brochures! Lol.

Welcome back Gee. Your garden still has plenty to see in it and it won't be long till the first spring bulbs start flowering.

Loved your pics but loved the words you added just as much :-)

Hi Gee welcome back I hope the computer behaves itself now for you, poor greenhouse still waiting lets hope it's watertight soon, loved your muddy walk pictures the fairy town and the open plan stick house! your Nov flowers and Heucheras were a treat on this cold wet day, your seat deserves to be sat upon what a lovely present, hug to Milly if it rains any more she will need little wellies :o)

Lovely to hear from you again Gee. That path through the woods looks deliciously muddy. Everything in the our garden is now leafless and the fuchsias didn't like those frosty nights. The fungi look very happy...they must like all this wetness. The other day there were 6 blackbirds all feasting on fallen apples from the large end tree. They don't like one another but the apples are too yummy and too many for just one of them. I had a very ill feral cat in the garden for some time. In the end the RSPCA took him away and he was put to sleep. It did upset me but it was for the best.

So nice to 'talk' to you all again. You're right, Dorjac, that path is really muddy and so are all the others! The other day I slipped and ended up with mud all down one side - I walked home trying to present my 'good' side to everyone I met :) Such a shame about your cat visitor, so distressing to see them like that. The cattery where my grandchildren work often have feral cats and Jenny seems to have a way with them and she was delighted recently when one became tame enough to rehome. Often the only homes they can go to are farms where they can live outside but still be looked after.
PP, you reminded me that I had some hyacinth bulbs in the greenhouse so I sneaked in (family have told me its too dangerous!) and now they are indoors, about an inch tall :)

Glad you got everything sorted Gee... your walk in the woods looks lovely... i havnt been over our woods in this wet weather.... as kayleigh is so small she gets covered in mud ..lol.....
Love your Hecheuras...

I do like your Kaffir lilies. They are very long lasting in the cold we have been experiencing recently.

After a visit to the dentist yesterday for a routine clean up from the tooth scrubbing lady.....can't spell the H word. I went to the GC and treated myself to new proofed gardening gloves, some more jute leaf bags for pot protection and 2 packs of fleece slip ons to go over pots....all at half price. Lots of expensive Xmas goodies there too, and no other customers in sight. Hoar frost everywhere out in the countryside and a spectacular red sunset too. Nice to have a garden centre you can walk to GEE. There were 6 lady blackbirds pecking apples in the garden, one was chasing the others around just now. I have a book that says that Scandinavian lady blackbirds come over in small groups at this time and quite like one another. Different social customs.

A garden centre sounds like a good treat after a visit to the Dentist, Dorjac! The only problem with walking to the GC here is that sometimes I get carried away and can't carry all I buy. Then it means a frantic phone call to get help :) My greenhouse was finally repaired yesterday but I think it will have to wait until the spring for a proper clean out. The plants seem to have survived too. I didn't know about the Scandinavian blackbirds, very interesting to hear as I too have quite a lot in the garden and they do seem very tolerant of each other. Unlike the 4 squirrels that visited yesterday - helter skelter all round the garden, up and down and round about - very amusing the watch :)

Nice to see you when you're able to come on. I've taken a little break away from it myself recently.
Your photos are lovely :o)

Hi Hywel, I didn't recognise you :) Things are more settled here now, computer behaving itself and I am more organised too. Take care.

Nice to know that :o)

I found the info about winter blackbird groups in The Times Nature Notes book for November. I can't say Iv'e noticed this before Gee, but last year I had 2 Mistle Thrushes feeding off and guarding spare grapes. This year there are loads of spare long keeper red apples and mostly female blackbirds going potty over them. They tidy up well after themselves too. The book is by Derwent May. On 27th Nov he remarks that female blackbirds from colder places are 'clucking in the hedges'. Male ones tend to stay home......bit of peace and quiet perhaps, from all the chatter? More food for them too.

Welcome back to GoY Gee ... I love your new Heucheras (just read through your Heuchera blog) ... has that GH been repaired yet? ... Shame on the Council for taking so long! ... I was so pleased this morning to see not one, but two, Mistle Thrushes in the back garden ... such pretty birds ... :o)

Thanks, Shirley, the new heucheras have survived the frosty weather very well. The greenhouse was finally repaired last Wednesday. Must admit the chap did a very good job and cleared every scrap of broken glass from inside too - at least someone on the council payroll earns their money!
Interesting about the blackbirds, Dorjac. I've had a thrush in the garden very briefly during the frosty spell. Yesterday there were 4 squirrels chasing each other around the garden, very entertaining :)

pleased to hear you have at least solved your Computer problems as that means you will be around a little more [see how you are missed] The color in your garden in November looked lovely, like your new Heucheras;0) its sad when the winter sets in but just have to look ahead to the Spring.
We have had very wet and cold weather here[some real freezing temperatures! so my garden is looking very soggy and drab at the momenty! One bonus however was when I went to check my Mini Green house, I found that my Hyacynth Bulbs were starting to peep through so I have bought them inside where its warmer and can keep my eye on them.
