Here again, Walz is the name of the breeder …
He names his fuchsias after musical instruments, so there are such names as Wals Harp, Walz Tuba etc
And this one – Walz Doedelzak … which is the word for Bagpipes in the Netherlands, where the breeder lives :o)

Goodness Hywel, if I had not known they were yours I would have thought I had hit upon 'The National Collection' lol.
You have so many interesting ones and all so healthy.
How do you over winter so many?

I was going to nominate it for goypedia but someone has got there before me......
As I scrolled down I thought I like that one...and that one...and that....well its easier to say that the only ones that didn't tempt me are the long thin ones, and the big blowsy showy ones are my very favorite...

Thankyou so much for putting this blog together, Hywel ... it's gone on to my Favourites for future reference ... wonderful collection of Fuchsias ... :o)
17 Aug, 2012
Its also gone into my favs Hywel, I have a habit of losing my labels, also some of them come without the proper names so a blog from you is always a treat to see as you always give out the info as well, so don`t apologise you are a great help, you have so many, we could choose a colour scheme for next year just by checking out your blogs..
I couldn`t possibly pick a favourite, they are all lovely...

Hywel I am just breathless! Absolutely wonderful. Now I have several more hardy ones on my wish list! Do you kow how many you have? I wonder how long it takes you to pot them all on in the spring?
17 Aug, 2012
Thank you all for looking at my fuchsias ...
Denise they spend the winter in the old outside loo, covered wit sheets of newspaper and bubble wrap :D
Steragram I don't know how many I've got because some always die, and I buy more all the time, so it varies.
I repot them a few at a time over several days, but I don't do them all every year. The bigger ones just get a dressing of fresh compost on top.
Grandmage I just use a watering can lol
17 Aug, 2012
Wow, hywel. How long did it take you to put this blog on? It is stunning. More like a reference encyclopedia. Well done. The fuchsias are just gorgeous. Jx

A big WOW from me to Hywel , fantastic blog, I couldn't pick a favourite either , love them all :-)
17 Aug, 2012
Thank you all :o)
Jane it took a while to do the blog because I had to sift through loads of photos in different files ! I had thought of puting them in alphabetical order, but I couldn't be bothered lol
Surreylad Citation opens out like a flat upside-down saucer. It's very pretty and I'm pleased you like it.
Thanks Simbad. I haven't got a favourite either ...

That has gone straight to my favourites too. Like Jane, I wondered just how long this must have taken; first to photograph, then to upload and write the, as usual, informative blog. When I first started scrolling through, I was trying to remember the names of several favourites, but as I went on, I realised that it was impossible to choose, though I do love the real 'showgirls' who look as if they're fresh from the Moulin Rouge, as well as some of the very subtle ones. I've heard the term 'doodlesack' for bagpipes - obviously a corruption of the Dutch. Incidentally, my 'Blackie' has pods now. Do I need to cut them off to keep him flowering? With all those fuschias to care for, it's a wonder you've time to be on here at all, but always good to see you. Enjoy your pursuits.
Incidentally, I had to look twice at Scottish and Pansy's avatars. Swap tiger for dog and or vice-versa and SNAP! Well, almost.

Hywel
Impressive collection and all the better shared!
These pics are great inspiration, I am another who has added this to their fav's.

It's lovely to see the real Delta's Sarah :-D Still loving Star Wars. Must admit I was feeling v sorry for myself on Sunday morning as was packing suitcase to go away for work then heard that there was a fuchsia fair about 20 miles away and was so wanting to go but couldn't fit it in :-( Never mind - your blog is a great substitute and as long as I have a job to fund my fuchsia habit I can keep on adding your inspirational fuchsias to my wishlist. Really appreciate your addition of hardiness indicator as I don;t have anywhere to overwinter so they just have to take their chances with me. Just noticed when I cam back that my white hardy fuchsia "Hawkshead" has started to bud so fingers crosssed I get some photos on soon :-D
21 Aug, 2012
Thank you Julie.
What a pitty you won't be able to make it to the fuchsia fair, but you can look forward to buying them in some other places :o)
I'm pleased to hear about your Hwakshead. It's such a sweet little flower ... very nice :o)

really lovely fuchsias came across this blog by chance while i was on google images :-) (one of your photos was on there)
i was trying to establish if my climbing fuchsias were the same as your Strawberry Delights in your recent blog! or perhaps they may well be the ones under your Strawberry Delights ;-D still none the wiser!
really lovely collection!

Just had another look - Blue Angel is amazing! Most unusual.
20 Jun, 2014
Hi Jane ... I hope you found the name of your climber ...
Strawberry Delight forms a small bush :o)
Thanks Steragram. I haven't got Blue Angel any more - it has died :(
21 Jun, 2014
