I am sorry to tell you all that my dear Beryl passed away peacefully in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The past few years have been a long hard struggle for her and I am relieved she is now out of pain.

Beryl added so much to your life and we have enjoyed the blogs you have written about your days out together exploring the beauty of your lovely country. You will feel the loss of her presence but this wee poem captures what we wish for you.
"Those we love don't go away.
They walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
still loved and very dear."

Thanks for all your lovely comments. You are all very kind.
I am so grateful to have so many friends - both
e-friends and non-e-friends, wonderful family (both Beryl's and mine) and very thoughtful neighbours, without all of of whom I would never have got through this.

With deepest sympathy, but you will never think of her as 'gone' - just out of sight somewhere. This sums it up.
Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I, and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other, that we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me and if you want to, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was,
Let it be spoken without effect,
Without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was;
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you,
For an interval,
Somewhere very near,
Just around the corner.
All is well.

Hywel what more can I say? I have kept on thinking about you and wondering how things were. You must be exhausted now and happy at least that the poor soul is free of pain at last. She was a fortunate lady at least in that she had such a dedicated carer.
Sending love.

Hywel, I am so sorry to hear of Beryl's departure. I have had no Broadband for 24 days but I have been thinking
about you both & wondering how things were going. We never meet our friends on line but still feel we know them & also feel for their joys & sorrows. Everything has already been said but I really hope that you will have a nice gardening year despite now being alone. We will all be thinking of you & wishing you well. ( Some nice poems on this blog). Best wishes Feverfew/ Josee

Oh Hywel, I am so very sorry to hear such sad news. I can only echo the sentiments expressed here, especially those in Scotsgran's and Honeysuckle's poems. As others have said, Beryl had a presence here through your posts too and although no longer in sight or sound she lives on in spirit and our memories ..... as time goes on I hope we shall still share these.

Oh Hywel, I have been off-line for a while with computer problems and have only just seen this blog. My heartfelt condolences are sent to you. Like other GoY members I feel I knew your dear Beryl through your blogs of your outings together. I do hope your garden and time spent in it will help ease your loss. Take care ... x x

Thank you Shirley xx
Beryl had a stroke in January and never recovered from it. Her life had become quite difficult since last year and she could not go on like that any longer, and I was also becoming very tired from being a 24 hr carer.
I look at the stroke as a way out of an impossible situation for us both.
I hope your computer problems are sorted out now.

I am very sorry to be so late Hywel, but I would like to offer you my condolances. I can’t even imagine how hard these few months have been. However, as you said yourself, at least there is no more pain for Beryl. It is some comfort I guess.

just seen this Hywel. It's so very hard to watch a loved one suffer. It does get easier, it doesn't mean you stop caring, or love her any the less, just that loss gets easier. I'm so sorry for all you have both suffered.
