well what can i start with,, i know rain rain and more rain here in blackpool so not alot of gardening going on or even sitting enjoying the garden “sigh”,
anyway got home from work about 4pm and there was a shimmer of sun, not for long mind but still there so on my way home i stopped off at the village garden nursery,,, yes i know what your thinking hahah, i wasnt just buying for buying sake, i wanted to replace my dwarf sweetpeas that have got a bit straggly and the leaves look tatty, still some flowers but not enough to make me want to keep them any longer,
i bourght a small tray of 4 begonias and 2 dahlia all for £5 so not bad at all,
once home i took out the sweetpeas which wasnt easy, well rooted and being carefull not to disturb the fuschia while doing this, once out popped some fresh composs in the pots and planted the begonias and 2 left which went in my welcome basket as the pansy`s looked a bit ,, well alot messy, but didnt need the dahlias so found a couple of gaps to pop them in borders,
so here is before with sweetpeas then after, also gave the decking a good brush as lots of fallen fuschias about and petals off my small begonias, it does look alot neater now

there think thats alot better dont you, i know there were still flowers on the sweetpeas but i just cant stand anything looking messy,
casper was being a great help just like most of our cat friends as you can see here in next pics

my white lillies are flowering well dispite all the rain and i also have my first flower on one of my hollyhocks which i was thrilled to see was black yippee

  • i had to get down on all fours to view my hollyhock as the first flower is at the bottom of stem, god knows what the neighbours thought seeing me like that lol,
also i have a neighbouring cat keeps popping by and sneaking in to eat caspers food so i couldnt bare for it to be hungry and not sure who owns he/she, so i give him a bit of food when he stops by poor thing*

so thats it on the simmons estate for now, well at least till weekend when i hope to cut the grass its getting like a meadow with all the rain, hope your days been good to ;o))))

just seen my black bin liner in the decking pic sorry guys, thats my black gold barbara told us how to make, keep it there so i remember to turn it

Looking lovely on your decking, Sandra. I know just what you mean about straggly Sweet Peas as one variety of mine are only growing stems of about 4" and are already going to seed ! They must have been 'Bijou ', shan't sow those again. To tell you how dry the grass is down here, my Mums cat is using the lawn as a scratching area, honestly, it's crispy now. : o ((((((

29 Jul, 2010

thanx shirley glad you like it;o))

29 Jul, 2010

Fantastic blog and pics as always Sandra. I'm exactly the same with tatty looking plants, just hate it when you get the last knockings happen. I know it has to but still looks awful. Got my Petunia's on there last legs aswell so purchased a few new perennials to replace these annuals. Just waiting for a dry evening so can get them in.
Finally managed to get the lawn cut tonight as 1st dry night this week and like yours, was looking like a meadow!! lol
Haven't managed to get out there at all this week because of this and got more dead heads then an exfoliating brush!! lol
Your patio area looks much better now and thats the only down side to Fuchsia's is the mess they make if left on the floor! Small price to pay for a stunning plant!

29 Jul, 2010

29 Jul, 2010

Hi San, sorry you're having it so wet. It's been a bit showery here but mostly sunshine for about a week now....great! All your work looks lovely...I don't know about B's 'black gold' but you've reminded me, I need to go and feed the worms in the wormery! I get loads of 'worm tea' from them and it's supposed to be a great plant food.

29 Jul, 2010

thats how it was done lol :o)

29 Jul, 2010

thanx karen, black gold is all the leave we sweep up, pop in black liner with som ewater to keep damp and every few weeks i turn the bag, hopefully in spring it should have decompossed and will spread on raised bed for nourishment ;o))
lol joan ;o))

29 Jul, 2010

What a great place for you to sit - and your white lilies are absolutely beautiful!!! Never ceases to amaze me how many fuchsia flowers can drop and the plant still looks loaded, lol.

29 Jul, 2010

Not much rain here Sandra....grass still very very sad....the bit of rain we had the other day did not even wet the surface of the ground. :(((( your garden is as beautiful as always...you've bought yourself some lovely plants there too. :))) I went to Baytree Garden Nursery in Spalding today...it is a very big place...I cannot believe I came out with not even one plant....there was nothing unusual for me to buy, I have got most of the plants they had there.
:((((

29 Jul, 2010

thankyou so much wager, not getting alot of time to sit there with all the rain but hopefully will soon, your right about fuschias to, just shows how many flowers they produce each year ;o)) lol

29 Jul, 2010

i cant believe you left without a plant either,, did you have to sit and have a strong drink when you got home lol ;o))

29 Jul, 2010

glad the rain is doing your garden good. we are so desperate for rain I keep hanging the washing out when it looks cloudy in the hope of tempting the rain gods. :o)

29 Jul, 2010

thankyou so much balcony, i love this area to sit and watch, its close to my pond ;o))

29 Jul, 2010

Lovely lovely garden San and good on yer feeding the stray moggie.
I too have sweet peas gone all strangely but they keep on sending out some handsome flowers so for that reason they have been reprieved. ( for now ) :0)))

29 Jul, 2010

lol val, your better than me then, i couldnt stand them any longer, so i cut off all the flowers for the house before taking out ;o))

29 Jul, 2010

Reading everyone's comments on this blog Sandra, I must be one of the few who waters there lawn unless its rained heavy. Prior to this week, i'm out every night soaking it. Would still do the same even if it wasn't new turf. Sun just zaps all the moisture from the lawn and needs replacing asap!!

29 Jul, 2010

Lovely garden Sandra and lovely green grass too. I can't bear scruffy plants either, been round pulling out some straggly Malva which looked good for about 2 weeks then sprawled all over the place......might just have to go to the GC too to find some replacements! LOL . I'd be feeeding the visiting cat too :o)))

29 Jul, 2010

Your garden is looking as beautiful as ever, glad to be reminded of your black bag - seeing it reminded me that I had started one and it got put behind the shed weeks ago when I was doing some tidying up, will take a look see tomorrow to find out whats happening with it.lol.

29 Jul, 2010

It has been fine here all day Sandra and I have been repotting my chilli plants and filling up the bird feeders with niger seeds and wild bird seed. Your garden is looking a picture -so colourful wish ours looked as good as yours! ;-)

29 Jul, 2010

In spite of the rain, your garden looks wonderful.

29 Jul, 2010

Know what you mean about the sweet peas ours are going over now and the leaves have got mildew, so they will have to go, but we have two clematis growing with them (mistake no 1!!) so will have to wait now, your garden has survived the rain very well. and is still looking pukka.....

29 Jul, 2010

garden looks super San. we have not had any significant rain for nearly 2 months. result....plants have stopped flowering and ground too hard to replace them with anything. also some very sad guinea pigs with nothing to nibble when they are in the run!

30 Jul, 2010

Looks really well Sandra, like you i'm sick of all the rain we keep getting sure our plants would not look so bad if it did'nt keep rainng on them, as eor that cat Sandra think you will find its a girl as she is a torti and you dont get boys that colour , she looks lovely though, she looks like one of my sons cat and she is a girl aswell.

30 Jul, 2010

You've done a great job there San,tidied it up very nicely and it looks very pretty.A job well done : )

31 Jul, 2010

No Sandra, they're all in big pots as the makeover was in progress when they were ready to go out so I sunk some pots in the borders. Well I do have some geums and other perennials to go into borders, so in a way I will be replacing them i suppose lol:-) Our summer left a while ago too, maybe August and September will be nice as July was something of a washout:-)
