Gems found in Herefordshire

In a bleak summer, finding treasure seems even more special so I thought you might like to see the gardens I visited at the weekend open under the NGS. Sit back and dream:
From the moment I stepped into ‘The Cross’ garden I knew I was in for a treat:
A glowing welcome from the plants:
In a garden that had something of everything, [within an acre, here is the wild flower meadow leading onto fields and woodland:
Wildlife pond complete with lilies:
Echinacea, looking its elegant best:
There are not many days this year when we could say ‘Oh to be in England when’………not April but this I think is ‘An English Country Garden’
Packed with plants, someone loves their plants:
Little sempervivum beautifully displayed:
Dont you just love that grass that sways in the breeze:
Does it get any better than this?
Im not sure the gateway to heaven could improve on this
And the scent from the lilies:
You can see the love, care and work that goes into this garden:
Picture perfect ~ and yet they say there is no master plan for this garden, it has evolved over 28 years:
A sea of plants, waves of colour and texture:
I love their cheerful smiley faces:
I wonder how many plants are here, or how many hours are spent tending or just dreaming?
Curves of green and gold:
I just thought what a gem, how many other wonderful gardens are there
Just one more look because I couldnt resist another photo:
A couple of miles down the road was a working farm also with an open garden, this is the entrance:
I love these:
The red border, more of this later:
Herefordshire, famous for its mistletoe:
Look to the skies [just checking its really still blue????]
Wandering round the corner of the old barn and I felt as if I were in Tuscany!
France, Italy?
Polytunnel without a passionflower ~ what do you think Stevie?
Another shot of the pond with its mill stone:
A rather different form of clematis [this area was under development since the cows got in and trampled the garden]
Multi-coloured border:
And here they are again ~ everyone was given a bunch to take home!
I cant quite believe the treasures that are almost on the doorstep ~ well nearly ~ its the next county ~ beautiful, calming, rural Herefordshire.
I would like to add my very grateful thanks to all those who work so hard and open their beautiful gardens for the enjoyment of others, its brilliant ~ thank you!

Thank you everyone, they are lovely gardens arent they but they have had their fair share of rain too, like everyone else!
It was about 40 minutes drive from us, i feel very lucky to have such lovely places so near. Worcestershire is a very pretty county but Herefordshire is just something else, there is a real peace about it, an openness and a freshness, which is very special.
I really loved that grass Sheila, it captivates me. It was truly beautiful, thank you Scotcat.
For once I didnt put a picture of the cakes in, I was too busy photographing the garden [which was a very real pleasure] but there was an amazing array of truly delicious cakes. Herefordshire NGS do a recipe book but i spent all my money on the plants!!!

Those gardens both look superb, Sticki and you got some great pictures, as usual. Glad you had such a lovely experience.
We went garden visiting too over the weekend in Bolton by Bowland and Grindleton in Lancs. and had a wonderful time in glorious, unpredicted sunshine; so enjoyable was our visit that we went back on Sunday to see the gardens we hadn't time for on Saturday. These weren't in the NGS but were also opening for charities. I came away with a free tomato plant from one house and a huge Eupatorium - which the owner very generously dug out for me - from another, not to mention the huge injection of inspiration which has kept me outside till 10 p.m. every night since. So, I just want to echo your vote of appreciation for all those who open their gardens in this way. To all of you, thank you.
12 Jul, 2012
wow lovely blog Sticki, looks a fab place to go :-)
12 Jul, 2012
it was a really beautiful place hywel, i could have spent ages there, and i dont imagine they ever stop working on it ~ im sure they said something like 'we dont like bare soil'??
you're welcome pixi
thanks mark ~ it was and they made you very welcome too.
sounds like you had a wonderful time tuesday, have you got any pictures?
thanks surreylad, it was a real gem!!
12 Jul, 2012
No pictures, Sticki, as I still can't manage to upload anything, despite hours spent in the attempt. OH tried to help but he couldn't do it either. Very down about this. :( :( :( 3 sad frogs this time!
12 Jul, 2012
i like your frog pictures!!
why wont the pictures load tuesday ~ what does the computer say?
12 Jul, 2012
lovely blog, thanks, Sticki! beautiful pics of a stunning array of nature; I should think keeping it looking like that is a full-time job for a whole crew of people!
12 Jul, 2012
loved the densely packed flower borders in the first garden, 'a sea of plants', the grasses with the nepetas, the succulents on their stairway to heaven, and the pond and that polytunnel, even without its passionflower, peagreen here too.
english countrygardening at its best.
thanks very much for all the pics Sticki, into favorites.
did you find out how many gardeners worked that first garden?
12 Jul, 2012
Sticki, it says'incorrect format', so we amended, but still no go!
12 Jul, 2012
thanks fran, it certainly looks like a full time job to me!!
you are welcome resi, as far as i know it was just the couple who lived there who did the work ~ i will try to find out,
hmmm tuesday, sorry i havent seen that message before, ah it might be how you save the photo. if you go to where you save your photos on the computer then right click on a photo and select the edit option; resize it and then save it ~ but when you save it give it a name, then [and i think this might be the bit you particularly need] look underneath the line where you have saved it under a name and it gives options as to 'SAVE AS TYPE' ~ you need to select the JPEG option; hopefully that will work.
12 Jul, 2012
Hello Sticki! that is so heaven for me:-)))))))))))))))))
12 Jul, 2012
hello Junna, they are lovely gardens aren't they? and so fabulous that the weather suddenly changed, we have nearly non stop rain!!!
12 Jul, 2012
Stunning photos as always Sticki - especially the close-ups.
12 Jul, 2012
thank you rose, i like close ups [when i get them to work] they fascinate me!!
12 Jul, 2012
Thanks for the advice. It's really kind of you; will try but think we were saving as Jpeg already.
12 Jul, 2012
the only other option is to try making a smaller number of pixels, sorry dont know otherwise, the people that are good on the computers on here are stevietheterrible, meanie, pimpernel and bampy ~ im sure others are too but all of those have helped me sort things out in the past.
12 Jul, 2012
Everyone has said it all really - enjoyed it very much.
13 Jul, 2012
glad you enjoyed it steragram, its lovely to look at the blue sky again ~ dont think i have seen it since last sunday!!!
13 Jul, 2012
Thank you so much, Sticki. I don't know how to reduce the number of pixels but will see if OH or one of my boys understands. Failing that will ask for help from one of the members you mentioned.
13 Jul, 2012
if you right click and choose the option to edit, then when you get into that you should see the option to re-size, if you choose pixels, you may find the number is around 3-4000 so just change it to 999, then save the picture with a different name [by using save as] so you retain the original picture but also you have the picture which should be able to be uploaded, it can also be used for email like that.
13 Jul, 2012
Once again you have given us a wonderful day out and bought to life two very different but great gardens . Its lovely to share other gardeners passions and ideas especially when they so generously open their doors to us. I hope the weather is kind to the people of Fladbury tomorrow when around 20 gardens there are open to the public, looking forward to going and will take some pics. Thanks again Sticki.

''Featured on - beautiful garden pictures''

14 Jul, 2012
I'm late again, but this was well worth waiting for. Its absolutely amazing. I couldn't say which part I liked the best as I loved it all! The grass in the first gardens were immaculate. They must spend hours and hours looking after it all. I've put this in my favourites so I can keep going back to have another look. Thankyou for sharing this, Stickie.
14 Jul, 2012
Another wonderful blog Sticki, such beautiful gardens. We used to go to Yellow Book gardens , what a fantastic idea, I wonder who thought of it? How did you wangle the sunshine and blue skies? We've got them here at the moment, so hoping to get some gardening done today:-)
