LUCY on her 2nd day with us

Lucy is settling in nicely and I’ve been able to take some photos without upsetting her. They aren’t brilliant as photos go…but she’s pretty brilliant and steals the show :)
Hubby has been able to stroke her now too which is real progress. We have been advised by the CPL to keep her in the spare room for about 4 days and then allow her to visit other areas of the house so that’s what we will do. Her favourite spec is under the bed but she will readily come out if called (puss, puss; kitty kitty etc….I don’t think she’s too bothered about her name yet…lol).
So we are smitten with our beautiful Lucy. Our house really feels like a home now. Very pleased.
Lucy says her meow thanks to everyone for their lovely comments on her adoption into our family :)

she's lovely Whiston-- just a little shy as you say she'll soon settle down I'm sure -- how old is she?

Lovely Lucy... I like the photos...
she's settling in very well... :o)

aww she is special jacquie, we just let casper explore everything and he loved it, cupboards draws you name it he went inside hahaha, glad lucy is settling in with you both ;o))

so pleased Lucy has settled in with you...

Lucy is 3 yrs. old....I think she will be petite like our Sheba was as I would expect she has left the kitten stage behind now. They told us she weighed 3kg....I don't know what an average weight is for this age of kitty but she is nice and healthy, soft fur too.
San, last night she got under one of our recliner chairs and hubby had to fish her out...but she was still very aware of being in a new place with new sounds etc. so I expect she'll find places to hid for a long while yet.
I'll keep you posted (i.e. bore you all!..lol) with updates as we mosey along....just Lucy, hubby and I. The grandkids are coming on the weekend and I've warned them to not bound up the stairs (as they usually do...yelling for nana and grandpa and giving us delightful hugs)**....and then if they are quiet (not holding my breath on that though!) I'll take them in, one at a time to get acquainted with Lucy.
** hugs are acceptable though :)

Aww... She is lovely. I love cats.
17 Mar, 2011
Aw she's lovely, just like one we had called Socks he lived to the grand old age of 18 and died in his sleep, still miss him he was quite a character! Hope she soon settles in bet it doesn't take long they know when they've landed on their feet lol!!
17 Mar, 2011
Yes, SK...it is hard to accept that our pets have a limited life span...our previous kitty, Sheba, was 19yrs. when we had to put her to sleep as she deteriorated and was clearly unwell. We've waited 5 yrs. before we would take the plunge with another and I'm pleased we chose well.
I agree, Alex...she is a lovely cat :)
17 Mar, 2011
Lucy has nice long whiskers, and looks to have a lovely silky coat. I hope she gives you many years of love and companionship.
17 Mar, 2011
She's very pretty, Jacquie. She looks like a Lucy, dainty and graceful :o)
17 Mar, 2011
I noticed her whiskers only today, Teds....they do seem quite long...it has been the first chance today that I could "study" her as she started to relax in our company.
I agree, Mandy...dainty and graceful :) Pretty too...lol
17 Mar, 2011
lovely and great to hear she's adapting well in Whistonlass :):):)
17 Mar, 2011
Glad lucy is settling in well,Whistonlass..before long.she will be sitting on the reclining chair, not under it .!:o)
17 Mar, 2011
She`s lovely Jacquie, I`m glad you`ve found yourself such a pretty little companion. :o))
17 Mar, 2011
She is lovely Whistonlass good luck with her, I am sure she will settle down soon, enjoy her.
17 Mar, 2011
Bloomer....I can't wait until she is relaxed enough to be able to curl up in our living room furniture...even if we have to fight for a place to sit! lol
Thanks Labancer and Olive....it's been fun to introduce Lucy to my GoY friends. I hope it won't be long before I have some more news/photos on our garden too.
17 Mar, 2011
She's a pretty little cat, Jacquie, love the white front leg! Does she have some black on the back of it? Her whiskers look soooo long! She'll be in your favourite chair before you know it. : o ))
17 Mar, 2011
Ah she's lovely :)) It's nice you could give her a home. She seems to be settling in well. I hope you'll be able to show lots more photos of her :o)
I remember the cpl told me to keep Blodyn in for a month - what a to-do ! I had to let her out after a week or she would have shredded everything in sight lol :D
17 Mar, 2011
She looks a very pretty cat Jacquie. When we've had cats from the Cats Protection League ( and there have been quite a few) we have always given them the run of the house so that they could find their own place to hide or sleep etc.. I must say I have never heard of confining them to one room only.
I'm sure she will settle in well because she can't fail to love all the fuss and adoration she is going to get from you.
Look forward to seeing more pics later on.
17 Mar, 2011
Lucy is gorgeous, I'm sure you'll be very happy together :o)) All cats are different and if Lucy is happy in one room then all's well. Our latest rescue cat Daisy refused to be confined in one room from the very first but the one before didn't want to come out! Lucy is bound to make her own rules and tell you exactly how things are to be, like most cats!
17 Mar, 2011
Lucy is very pretty Whiston and I can tell she owns you already, I`m not surprise at that as I know it doesn`t take long if one is a cat lover..
Have fun this weekend with the grandchildren and Lucy, if they are like mine you and grandpa won`t get a look in, lol.....
17 Mar, 2011
What a gorgeous cat Lucy is ,she will settle she will find somewhere comfy that suit's her they always do.Out of my three one is a rescue cat one adopted us and one is a stray that comes to me for food ,first aid and a warm.
17 Mar, 2011
Aww...you are all so nice....a real lot of kitty lovers here aren't we? :)
It did seem odd that it is recommended to keep them confined for 4 days in one room (she's actually got 2 rooms as they adjoin each other) and you are right, Hywel, we have been told to keep her inside for a month and to allow her then to come outside into the garden with us but take her out when she is due to be fed...she should then, if she escapes, come back for her dinner!
We will play it by ear...it all seems to be going so well. So thank you for all your kind replies and I'm sure there will be more photos to come. Shirley, I will have to check out that white leg....I think it is all white but I'll need to have a closer look :)
17 Mar, 2011
she looks happy bless her...
17 Mar, 2011
So pretty, and Lucy is so lucky to have found a home!
18 Mar, 2011
Thanks, Lauram....I know how much you care for your kitties although I think all your cats are a lot bigger than our little Lucy. She's 3 yrs. old and I'm not sure how much more she will grow....all I do know is....she's a real keeper :)
18 Mar, 2011
Think Lucy has well and truly landed on her feet with you two. She is so pretty Jacquie. Can't wait for the updates :)
18 Mar, 2011
Last night I opened the door to her room and she came out for a little while, sniffed around, had a scratch (naughty) on the back of our sofa!!, and then came up on the sofa and lay very near to me :)...stretching and grooming herself....aww
We've opened her door this morning but so far she's chosen to stay in her room we think....she's not made her debut appearance on Day 3 yet. By the looks of her room she had quite a scramble in there during the night....the bedside table ornaments and lamp are tipped over and her dish of crumbles have been upended from her dish. Oh well....she seems to be making herself at home. lol
18 Mar, 2011
Lol she will soon settle in now !
18 Mar, 2011
Well Day 3 saw Lucy investigating our attached garage. I think she had a good rummage around as she was down there a couple of hours before coming back upstairs.
She's sat beside hubby and allowed him to pet her but won't entertain the idea of chasing a piece of twine he is trying to interest her in chasing! lol
She's just having some dinner and seems happy :)
18 Mar, 2011
So pleased that Lucy is settling into her new home she is a very pretty cat, Im sure in a couple of weeks she will be chasing everything in sight;0)
18 Mar, 2011
Yes, I think you could be right, PP....she's been chastised already for scratching the back of the sofa last night and she's decided the lounge window is just perfect for surveying her kingdom...little and often. :)

It takes some cats quite a while to settle down, so she'll be fine! I didn't see Manchester for 2 weeks when he first arrived.
Not ALL of my cats are big, Sundae is only about 5 pounds, but yes, mine do tend to be on the well-nourished side. I met someone today with a 30 pound orange Maine Coon cat, but she didn't have a photo. I've always wanted a huge cat. The largest cat in the country weighs over 40 pounds!
19 Mar, 2011
Now that is one HUGE cat....40 pounds! We will be careful to keep Lucy inside but we've pretty much given her free reign to roam throughout the house.
She is a little naughty with the scratching of furniture we are finding out....but she does stop if you say her name or no (in a louder voice than normal). I use a very soft voice when I speak to her in general and she responds to that quite well now. Yes, Lauram, she will soon settle down.
Lucy has a long way to go, Lauram, to catch up to the two cats you mention who top the scales at 30 and 40 pounds.

she's beautiful whiston and looks like my cat Oscar. He's a year younger than Lucy and we adpoted him from a local rescue centre after he was taken in at only 8 weeks old. He was found playing on a very busy local road. He loves going into bins - i'm sure he picked up these bad habits while he was fending for himself. Anyone would think he doesnt get fed. Anyway, if Lucy is half as loving as Oscar, you are in for many a happy day! Glad your house now feels like a home, i know exactly what you mean x

She's gorgeous, Jacquie. So nice to hear she's settling in well. Can you believe I've put a comment on here? It's a learning process, what can I say? And I dare say that as spring arrives, I'll be on this site more frequently. Take care.
PS: I've just been checking out the tomato plants. There are two of the three that are available in seeds in England: Sungold and Moneymaker (don't have Big Beef). I picked up some hints, some other names. Hmm. Interested in "hanging" tomatoes.
PPS: Typed the original paragraph first. When I came to add the info about the tomatoes, it told me I could "edit" my original message, so I did. I guess you edit comments, rather than putting another one on. Later.
19 Mar, 2011
I've been able to return to blogs and edit them but I can't remember how....I'll see if I get a flash of inspiration and if so, I'll pass on what my sr. brain remembers! lol
And yes, you can edit your comments but it's for a limited time...not sure how long....although you seem to have succeeded in editing your comment this time :)
Yes, we need pictures of your patch, Ann. Good info about the tomatoes...now I just have to remember who was asking about the yellow ones earlier on GoY....I ask you, is there any hope for me? .....
19 Mar, 2011
Good on ya Whiston for adopting her!
20 Mar, 2011
Thanks Helen...she is a bit timid today as a result, we think, of a long visit from our four noisy, excitable grandkids yesterday. She will come out to eat but then scoots back to her position under the bed in our spare room.
She meowed a lot through the night and it kept waking me up....I got up and comforted her, fed her and she seemed a bit more content. Feeling knackered though so it will not be a late night for me tonight!
20 Mar, 2011
Lucy will soon settle down Whiston, she has a good home! In a week or so the crying will be a distant memory! I hope you have a good sleep tonight!
20 Mar, 2011
Thank you, Helen...I'm thinking it's almost that time...much earlier than I would normally retire for the night. She's had her dinner and gone back to her favourite spec under the spare bed. Here's to a good night's sleep....for us all :)
20 Mar, 2011
Ditto to that Whiston, sleep well! x
20 Mar, 2011
Lucy is absolutely gorgeous! I wish you many happy years together! :-)
20 Mar, 2011
Hello Whistonlass! I didn't know 'til now you had got a new kitty! She's lovely! Our two are rescue cats, Chloe is a wee torty and Bear is a tabby. Although they aren't related they both came to the house on the same day, so they didn't have to fight over territory, and get on really quite well together... excluding the chasing up and down the stairs~ it sounds like two toddlers thundering around!! I'll put some pics on this week. She'll settle in fine, it's just been the noise of the children that has disturbed her, and as long as she has somewhere to escape to she'll be grand! Sounds like she's got you wrapped around her little paw already! ;0)))
21 Mar, 2011
You are right Libet....she's well in with me...lol This morning she has convinced me that dry crumbles in the morning just won't do....so I've given her a pouch of her Felix wet food. She approved!
She's also found my lap! (well...actually my tummy and my "boobies"..as my grandaughter calls them) and has happily settled down. She made it difficult to use the laptop though! lol I think she has gone back to her room to have a lay down after all that exertion.
Thank you for your good wishes too, Red Aly....I hope we have lots of happy years together too. :)
Had a good night of restful sleep....yeah x
21 Mar, 2011
Just found out you've got yourself a kitty W/lass, she looks just like one we had 'whisky'. He was a stray that we took in years ago, and we had him quite a few years. She will settle down, it doesn't take them long once they know they're safe and have their ''Canteen'' at hand!!! Love her gorgeous Whiskers. ......Welcome to your new home Lucy !...................Meowwwww. from Fluffy.
22 Mar, 2011
Lucy says hello "meow language" back at Fluffy :) She's very much enjoying being on my lap (well bosom really) but it makes it pretty hard to type on the laptop! lol
Thanks, Lins....she is settling in great.
22 Mar, 2011
Lucy looks great, hope she settles in. Very nice coat.
22 Mar, 2011
We are off to the CPL tomorrow as she is due her 2nd vaccination. I hope she won't be too unsettled by having a journey again in the car....she was very good/quiet when we first adopted her and brought her home in the car. So...would like a repeat of a calm journey :)
