Long border..part 2..

Many of you have already seen a part of my long border at the front of our house,so I won’t bore you with another photo.. This is the length of the border as a whole..shared between four of the Bungalows..
This small part ,up to the First Emerald and Gold Euonymous belongs to my neighbour to our right…all well established shrubs, which I ‘tweak’ for him when needed..it doesn’t take long..
The next section up to the small tree,is our bit,and up to the end of the paving, belongs to my neighbour to our left..again,mainly evergreen shrubs..
Both are widowed and in their eighties,so we are the ‘young uns’ in between ..Lol.
Pretty long border, isn’t it? and I used to help out with all this section, but too much now,so they employ a lovely man to do the donkey work :o)
But this isn’t all of it..this last section is set back a little, and the main reason I am posting this blog,as it is so beautiful at this time of year..The lady is housebound, and her husband doesn’t do gardening,so they had it landscaped not long after they moved in..
Isn’t it lovely? here is a closer view..
We all have both front and back gardens as well as this,so you can see why my back garden is relatively easy to maintain now :o)
Hope you enjoyed the views we look out on..we never tire of it,whatever the season…:o)

Bloomer, that border is wonderful! No wonder you enjoy looking at it...and tweeking it!
Your back garden is also looking good, so neat, and tidy too. :)

Thank you so much for your lovely comment,Scottish..and I do remember you saying about your grass verge..The difference is,that these are part of our properties, therefore our responsibility..although they were landscaped for us,when we moved in....it was so boring! so bit by bit,we 'removed' ? a lot,or gave them away..a few we planted behind our back fence,in what was designated as a wild life area, and still belongs to the.Bowling club which previously owned all this land...it is a steep slope with a stream in the bottom,so it is unsuitable for building..They are quite happy for us to access it..so OH put a gate in the fence..it also doubles up as a compost heap.when my own bin is full...recycling :o)..
I am very happy with my white Dicentra..it has appreciated not being flattened with my gardening clogs this year !:o)

Wow it is a long border and beautiful as is your back garden, lovely :))

Thank you Waddy, It's lovely to tweak.,instead of all the hard slog that went into it,when we first came !The 'landscaping',was just a foil to bury all the rubbish from old garages and other detritus, that occupied that area from years ago :o( it took us a long time to get rid of it..and I bet I could still find some,if I tried..but I ain't gonna ! Lol. Thanks for liking my back garden too :o)

I think it's truly amazing that the long border is so beautiful and well-kept. It's lovely, you should all be congratulated! :))

Thank you Daylily..pleased you enjoyed it..It's so nice that we all love our own parts of the border...we are a happy little band who all pull together,as much as we are able..
There are four other Bungalows, with lovely gardens too,but they only have front and back gardens to look after, but everyone can see ours from their kitchen windows, and get a lot of pleasure from it,as they all have to walk past,to get to the main road..

Thank you Karen..we realise how lucky we are,to have like minded neighbours..I would despair,if they were otherwise..but we were all up for the challenge ! lol..We get a few people looking over the wall,to make nice comments, and chat, when the bowling season starts..We don't mind,as they aren't being nosey, just complimentary.. Like you,I love living where we do..:o)

It is really beautiful Sandra, it would make a lovely card to send out to friends wouldn't it. So pretty.
27 Apr, 2014
SO PLEASANT. LUCKY YOU LIVE THERE.
27 Apr, 2014
It's really beautiful Sandra :o) and it's nice you've got the back garden too, for some privacy ...
I like the stone in that big wall :)
27 Apr, 2014
Thank you Cinders, that is a lovely thing to say..It would be nice,if I knew how to make them ! :o)
27 Apr, 2014
Thank you Kokkinotria..we feel very lucky to live here..:o)
27 Apr, 2014
Thank you Hywel..we are very private in the back garden...bliss :o) most properties here are build of this kind of stone..we have a huge stone quarry a couple of miles away,so it's all local ..not built like this anymore are they ? unless you are loaded ...
27 Apr, 2014
They build rubbish these days. It's much better to use local materials. The buildings fit in to their surroundings better like that, and look more natural :o)
27 Apr, 2014
I agree,Hywel..and there I am,covering half of it with Ivy ! Lol.
27 Apr, 2014
Great pictures Sandra of your long border and the last section too, I can't remember seeing it closely but your long border is wonderful no matter what time of year, your own gardens always look pristine and so colour ful, nice to see your Dicentra mine is also looking good ;0))
27 Apr, 2014
Beautiful Border and back garden too Bloomer you have planned it well and keep it looking great, no wonder the bowlers admire it, it is an asset to the area and a nice view from your windows any time of year :o)
27 Apr, 2014
looks very, very nice Bloomer.
27 Apr, 2014
What a beautiful long border Sandra, so full of colour.I'd love looking out at this, and you've all done a great job "tweaking".Its got a real community feel to it. Your back garden looks great as well, beginning to wish we'de got a smaller back garden!
28 Apr, 2014
Thank you for your lovely comment Carole,You have probably not noticed the far end of the border, when you have come over,as it's mainly just shades of green most of the year..and we are always ready for going out somewhere..and thinking ahead to a nice lunch :o) I am really happy with the Dicentra, and glad the one you bought is doing well too :o)
28 Apr, 2014
Thank you Neena,it is lovely being able to see it from the kitchen window..and as Russell washes up mainly,it's only fair he should have a good view too ! Lol.Pleased you like both this, and my back garden..so easy to look after now..I'm glad we got rid of the rubbish lawn, and put gravel down..somewhere for all my pots in summer :o)
28 Apr, 2014
Thank you Klahanie, that's kind of you to say so :o)
28 Apr, 2014
Thanks Val..it is more than enough for me to look after now,and most things are either Perennials or evergreen..so it doesn't feel like hard work anymore..mind you,it's taken 12 years to achieve what I am happy with..the times I've moved plants around over the years! ..all trial and error :o)I presume your back garden is fairly big then?
28 Apr, 2014
Wow!!!! beautiful border, your garden is stunning too Bloomer so well kept love it :-)
28 Apr, 2014
what a beautiful and well kept garden border, so pretty and such a special one as everyone has contributed. Great to have nice neighbours who care about their surroundings. Your garden also looks amazing, lovely and tidy and so easy to keep looking that way. Great Gardening Bloomer :O)
28 Apr, 2014
Oh, I love the idea of all residents sharing the border though it may be a bit of a task for someone who does not enjoy gardening (or can not do it for various reasons). Interesting to see the different personalities reflected in each of the section. And I agree, the last section looks stunning right now. But the whole border is probably lovely to look at no matter what season we're in. Brilliant!
28 Apr, 2014
Looks lovely sandra, wish my neighbours kept theirs like this.... :))
28 Apr, 2014
Wow Sandra - what a smashing sight to see on here - well done you and the neighbours - not forgetting the lovely man doing the donkey work! Just shows what can be done ... :o)
28 Apr, 2014
How lovely to have that long border for you all to enjoy as well as your own back gardens. All looking wonderful and does you credit.
28 Apr, 2014
Really nice x
28 Apr, 2014
All I can say Sandra is WOW ! It looks fabulous ! I love your garden too ! I can understand that you love looking out at it all the time. Ours is coming on and we both love to sit in the conservatory looking at the garden and watching all the birds. All the best things in life ARE free, aren't they ! xx
28 Apr, 2014
Its an absolute picture Sandra, as is your garden, I'm so pleased Russell enjoys the view from his sink, lol, I've just shown Derek and told him I would love a circle like yours, even told him where I want it, he keeps on at me about making the garden easier to manage, its having an effect on his wallet, so I think he'll be a bit more careful how he words things in future,. lol....
28 Apr, 2014
Hello, lovely people :o) I am overwhelmed with all your lovely comments..I didn't expect such a response..thank you all so much..:o)
Simbad,..It is quite easy to keep it tidy now that it's how I want it.. only took 12 years :o)
...........
Barbara,we have a lovely little community here, there are only nine Bungalows altogether..and everyone watches out for each other, without being intrusive..just like it used to be,with good neighbours, and they have all had an input with our long border over the years, when they were able..
pleased you like my garden too :o)
............
Jagienka..I agree,we all like different kinds of planting.but they all blend nicely together..that's just how it should be..it's a pleasure for all of us to look out and see what we achieved together..:o)
............
Holly,I would hate to live next to someone who didn't at least keep it neat and tidy..even if you aren't a gardener..it mustn't be pleasant..glad you like it :o)
............
Shirley..
The man who comes to keep it nice for our neighbours,is mainly a retired handyman, and not really a gardener..but he does what they want ,cuts their lawns,etc..and trims shrubs..he has been known to do their painting and decorating too..a lovely man..luckily,I don't need his services yet,but when I'm ready for a flat topped shrub,I will be getting in touch ! Lol.x
.............
Tuesdaybear..I'm pleased you enjoyed seeing our efforts..and my garden too..I'm looking forward to getting all my summer bedding in pots ,to stand on the gravel..all ready and waiting in the growhouse :o)
............
Pam,glad you like my blog and photo's..our little bit of heaven :o)
............
Rose...I bet you are the same as me,looking out for a little while, then thinking of something, and off outside again ! lol.I can't sit still for long..unless it's raining..:o).
I have to differ on the best things in life are free though..some of them are,but my purse knows different,
at the Garden Centres..let me know where you get your freebies :o)
........
Sue..
I wouldn't be so cruel ,as to stop Russell from washing up..what kind of a wife do you think I am ? Lol..I think Derek would be delighted to treat you to a circle..he seems such a caring guy :o) keep dropping the subtle hints..and your wish might be his command :o) go on,you know you want one now..I wouldn't be without mine, and it was our first project when we moved here..
28 Apr, 2014
Lol Sandra - have I told you of a friend of mine who flat tops just about everything? Very, very odd! The flat-topping, not my friend ... lol!
29 Apr, 2014
that is a stunning garden. congratulations
29 Apr, 2014
Thank you for sharing your personal space with us. Looks like a wonderful place to live.
29 Apr, 2014
Lol,Shirley..does your friend wear a flat cap as well? :o))
29 Apr, 2014
Thank you Maisiesdad..that is kind of you to say so..
29 Apr, 2014

29 Apr, 2014
Well, not that I know of ... but that's a great image!

This is so pretty and that really is beautiful to look out on. lucky you.

I've only just seen this - when you've shown pics of the wall before I'd no idea it was in a communal border on the road - I thought it was inside your garden. Its very unusual - wouldn't it be wonderful if the idea was taken up in more places? I must be an inspiration to look out and see that instead of a manky grass verge. And it all blends so well, you'd never know it didn't all belong to the same person.
Your back garden is pretty too, and not at all as I'd imagined it - can't recall having seen a picture of it before for some reason. I love my white dicentra too, they are so dainty. I'm planning to split it and put half near my pink one for next year.
Is the greenhouse yours - its difficult to see where your bit finishes.

What a lovely place to live Sandra, and the country side so near too. It must lift your spirits each time you pass the long border. What a year it has been for pieris they all look fantastic, especially the one in your garden. I'm in the garden for hours each day and it still doesn't look as neat as yours, yours is immaculate. I'm still making a mess in mine lol:-))
3 May, 2014
Oh well. Sandra....nearly all the best things are free ! Hahaa!
4 May, 2014
Thank you ,Sbg..it is looking more colourful this week, after sunshine and rain..mainly Orange and yellow Welsh poppies,in the long border, and Orange Geum in the back..love them all :o)
4 May, 2014
Thank you Sue, it is actually a cul de sac,so no through traffic, which is so peaceful, and so not much pollution either..in fact anyone who hasn't been round here before, are amazed there is so much greenery ..our own little hideaway..and we have the main Leeds to Manchester road about 200 yards away, but it doesn't seem like it..although we hear a bit of traffic, but it's no problem..Thank you for liking my back garden too,the greenhouse belongs to my next door neighbour..I only have the poor mans version..(Growhouse) Lol. which is plenty big enough for me.. Sadly he never uses it at all.only for storage of old pots etc ..His late wife bought it for his 80th birthday, and he didn't want one anyway..!
I have posted quite a few photo's over these past years,of the back garden..if you are stuck for something to look at,one day :o)by the way, last years cutting from "Lena" you kindly sent me,was planted in my Chimney pot today, along with a small Ivy :o)
4 May, 2014
Thank you Ba..I agree, the Pieris have been especially lovely this year, and no burnt leaves from frost either :o)
Both mine had a serious haircut last year,so it's nice to see lots of new shoots appearing from the bottom..I think you have a much bigger back garden to look after, than I do..sometimes I wonder how I spend a lot of my days in it..like today..been getting pots ready, for planting, and lots of pottering :o) x
4 May, 2014
Lol,Rose..you are right,really..the money we spend is an optional extra :o) x
4 May, 2014
Glad to hear Lena is doing OK - she will love that chimney pot and will lean over the edge to see what's going on nearer the ground! I'll have a look at your garden pics.
4 May, 2014
The original is doing nicely,as well,, Sue,but it's in the border..you are right, she needs to trail,so I am going to move her as well :o)

Bloomer, what an incredible sight that long border is. It must be such a pleasure to walk past. The landscaped border at the end is also well laid out. Your back garden is also looking great and I can see your white Dicentra looking spectacular.
I'm sure I said this the last time you posted pictures of your communal area but we have a grass verge over from us that belongs to the council and if they organised something like this, I'm sure it would encourage us to keep it looking good, instead we have weeds and tree stumps!
