Succulents in chimney pots.

I took the time today to remove some old succulents that had withered in two of my Victorian chimney pots.
Much had sunk and I decided to top up the compost and add some new succulents to the ‘surviving ones’.
I also planted yet another lavender!!! Cheap and cheerful, I seem to be obsessed. I have squeezed it in next to an ‘expected’ hosta which will sending up new growth directly.
Hoping they snuggle in ok.
Of course, Eve was there to act as supervisor…

It all looks very neat and in scale, Kate. I like your chimney pot. Glad the Garden Supervisor is ensuring all is done correctly! Her fur is lovely and shiny.

Eve is looking chipper today! Love your succulent displays. They are very thoughtful. That blue one is the 'bomb'.

Thank you Ange! I’ve these two pots in the back and I’ve one in the front. I’m pleased you like the results.
Yes, she was following me around and checking on my work until she miaowed eventually to go indoors - beddy time! She is looking quite shiny at the moment!😆

Thanks Paul! She was quite on the ball keeping a check on my work today! Of course, she was relaxing in between supervising sessions!
Thank you for liking my succulents and lavender, I’m quite pleased with them. Think the spring sunshine has been very therapeutic today! 😊

Really attractive and I too seem a little obsessed with lavender plants!!
In fact we were dealing with all our lavender plants today, trimming and replanting them to try to stop them getting too woody.
Wouldn't it be sad if we HAD to buy some more?!!!

Thank you, Mossy. I’ll bet they look so very attractive in your tree fern! I’d have never thought of doing that. I have 2 tree ferns, it’s definitely something I’ll be thinking about!
Yes, Eve is very much a little princess! Once we’d finished in the garden, she was miaowing half way up the stairs...she wanted me to go and lie next to her on the bed. She has a day bed on my bed, like a big squishy cushion...
I gave her 10 minutes. Once she was zonked out, I crept out and back downstairs 😆😆

Thank you, Josee! Yes, it’s been a really smashing day hasn’t it!

Thank you, Klahanie! I do like my chimney pots, a bit of rustic charm in the garden. It was OH’s idea originally to plant succulents in the pots.
As for the lavender, it’s a plant for some reason I can’t resist! It’s so inexpensive too. Thank you for your kind comment about my little rescue cat. We’ve had her for just over a year.

Aw thanks, Julia, I appreciate your feedback. ☺️

Thank you, Eileen! I wasn’t sure what to plant in the pots, OH had the idea when we saw them. We picked them up at Skirlaugh - the antique and garden centre.

Thanks kindly, Chris! Another lavender lover!!! Snap! I’ve been trimming and tending to my ‘older’ ones too! They are so tempting to buy aren’t they! 😊

Beautiful combination. Eve certainly knows what she is doing. 😄

Your succulents look nice in the chimneys. Lavender is one of my favourite plants.
Eve is such a pretty cat, she looks quite contented there :)

I also like your chimney pot Kate! I have three which were given to me by my daughter in law years ago and never know what I am going to put in them! Usually hanging basket plants but they take too much looking after and I always seem to forget them! You have given me an idea now!
Every time I see your cat, she reminds me of Minnie who died years ago!

The pots look lovely Kate, like a fool for the first time ever I left three succulent arrangements out on our patio, that cold snap we had a few weeks back really wasn't good for them, some went completely black poor things, I won't ever try that again, lesson learn't, luckily I have lots of them in my g'house so will be able to replace them..
I love lavendar and bought new ones to plant amongst my roses, last autumn, they are very good for warding off greenfly, plus I love the smell and as we know very good for the bees, my first recollection of smelling lavendar was in my Nanna's wardrobes and drawers, I liked it even then must have only been 3/4yrs old, I remember when we moved into our own house my mum made little bags out of old nylons and placed it in the bottom of our new wardrobes, lol...
Minnie is beautiful, looks very contented in the sunshine, Toffee still hasn't been brave enough to venture into our back garden, I miss him following me around and talking to me, he has made it as far as sitting on our neighbours fence, he knows he is safe from Pepper up there so I'm hopeful that he might return to the shed rooftops to sunbathe..

Eve does look as though all the praise was directed at her and she has come all over shy... Your chimney pots are great - succulents do look good in them.

Thanks Linda, appreciate your message, yes, she's the boss! 😻

Many thanks, Hywel, I'm pleased with the result!
Another lavender lover! Can't beat it for cost and it's an all rounder too.
Thank you for your lovely comment about Eve x

Rose, thank you, I'm happy you liked them, also I'm pleased it's given you an idea for your 3 too!
I can imagine Minnie, now, if she was like Eve. Hopefully she brings back good memories x

Thanks Sue! I'm sorry you've had your succulents hit by the recent cold snap! What a real shame...
I've found the majority of mine survive, just the odd one on the rockery is damaged by weather! I think it's pure luck for me! It's good you've somebody replace!!!
I think lavender in between your roses must look AND smell divine! The colour and the fragrance...beautiful. I loved reading your memories from childhood, those nostalgic aromas, it certainly brings back lovely times for you! Plus, what a great idea using nylons as little lavender 'pomanders'/'pomades'....
Yes, Eve was pretty content yesterday lazing in the warmish sunshine...
I do hope Toffee builds up more confidence to venture back into the garden with you. It would be really lovely, especially in the summer...😸

Thanks Sue!!! She's a really demanding cat!!! Likes lots of attention - on her terms of course!
Reminds me of the cartoon of the cat asking to be petted. As the owner bends down to pat the cat...the cat turns round quickly and with a sharp stare, the caption says " with your eyes! Pet me with your eyes!!!! "....😹

They look really good. Been thinking of getting some succulents and your blog is giving more food for thought. Also been thinking of getting some lavender. Had some in my last garden but none here. Have been clearing out a front border and thinking of putting lavender in that.
Eve is looking like she takes her job seriously lol. My old cat was the same. Would supervise me and the dogs. She was definitely in charge 😀

Thank Jen!! I appreciate your feedback. That’s the good thing about this site, we get good ideas from each other don’t we! Lavender in a front border sounds lovely! Yes, Eve is the boss! It sounds like your old cat was just the same. They do seem to be the boss with all of us, our dogs included!!!!

We do have happy memories of Minnie who was also a twin who we named Mickey. When we lived in Willow Cottage with allotments joining the house, they both walked each side of me to the allotment and then went to sleep until I was going back to the house. I just called them and off we went! They were like two little dogs! And we both miss them!
26 Mar, 2021
You never forget, do you, Rose...the memories stay with you forever.
They both sound like they were a sweet pair too. Happy just to follow you round and sleep while you potter. I’m sure you both miss them, I can understand why. 🐈⬛🐈⬛

I love old chimney pots and there are lots of different ones around here actually still on the old houses. Good idea to put the succulents in there. Eve looks content. When we had our cats they used to follow us everywhere.
27 Mar, 2021
Thanks Linda! We bought 3 from an antique centre/GC some time ago, we weren’t sure what we’d do with them, but couldn’t resist.
It seems most cats are the same!!
27 Mar, 2021
The old chimney pots are different shapes and well made, also slightly different colours too. They do look lovely.
28 Mar, 2021
Thanks Linda, they were quite a good bargain at the antique/GC place, the one in front of the house has a little rounded box in.
