Look What's Blooming In November!

It suddenly dawned on me this evening that it’s November, so I went out with my camera and snapped everything that is in bloom still.

The Salvia family has been a new theme for me this year. And almost all of them are still flowering.

Salvia x jamensis “Hot Lips”

S.patens “Dots Delight”

The wonderful hybrid “Wendys Wish”

Salvia guaranitica “Black and Blue”

Salvia elegans

And most surprisingly, Salvia discolor

Both forms of Sollya heterophylla are still flowering with the white form blooming the best………..

I’m probably most surprised by my Polygala myrtifolia…….

Passiflora caerulea “White Lightning” continues to put out at least a flower a day.

Even the Clerodendrum ugandense is still producing the odd bloom!

Campanula “Kent Belle” continues to flower (and spread) vigorously.

Gaura lindheimeri……..

And finally, an unknown Penstemon.

I like warm Octobers!

You've got lots of Salvias. They're doing well for you. It's nice to see things flowering late into the autumn.

Is it Pimpernel!!

Surreylad - there are a couple of Campanulas which are almost back in bloom too!

Amazing! All those lovely salvias, especially Hot Lips..makes me smile that!
I still have loads of alstroemerias, my honeysuckle Dropmore Scarlet is just finishing, low growing campanulas have rebloomed as have some hardy geraniums, my white lavender still going strong and my lovely iris. Even verbena has new flowers, roses, fuchsias of course, and achillias are also showing new flowers.
My biggest shock is Clematis Siebaldii Florida - have one with a flower and one with buds!

It's also very surprising Geordielad!

There are so many plants at Kew still flowering, the salvia border is still going strong. The down side of this warm weather is a lack of good autumn colour.

5 Nov, 2011

I bet that there are some great Salvia there!

So - how are you going to protect those beauties? I tried S. discolor in the greenhouse a couple of years ago, but still lost it. :-(

Do you think 'Wendy's Wish' will need protection? I'm not sure what to do - just thick mulching, or more than that?

5 Nov, 2011

S.discolor will come indoors Spritz. If I could get cuttings to strike from it I'd put it in the garage, but I can't.......

"Wendy's Wish" will get a sheet of glass over it, with glass on the north side too. The south side is only two metres from the fence, so I'll leave that open for air. Has it given you cuttings?
