Rosie and Nicks woodland wedding.

Are you sitting comfortably?

Once upon a time….Our eldest daughter Rosie married her fiance Nick last weekend. It all started with a 7 min civil service in Carmarthen. No rings no vows no fuss was the plan to start the celebrations. 14 of us were witness to this short but special moment in the old library of a boys school which now houses the registry office. They were keen to keep this bit as minor as possible and dressed very casually but looked glowing.

After this we went for lunch and then the work started…..we were lucky enough to be given a woodland to use for the weekend but the deal was we brought everything with us and took it all away again afterwards. Many friends and family gave their all to fetch, carry, cook, sing, build………my job of course was the flowers…

Rosie and i have been planning for a year and spent many a winters evening making things and it was great to bring it all together.

Nick wanted red tartan Rosie wanted purple so thats what they had. I wasn’t sure about it but it worked in the end… these are the grooms button holes made from one of Rosies dresses and surrounded in music paper as they ae both musicians.

I loved using the paper and some of it was 130 years old..

7 bridesmaids carried posys cosisting of flowers made from ties and some upcycled clothes.

Rosies bouquet was a challenge i enjoyed soo much. Its a collection of buttons, broken jewelry included an old pearl necklace old clothes and of course music paper roses.

I entered into the purple theme with my hair…

The woods are at the top of a steep bumpy dirt track. The rain was not helping access during the week as we ferried every thing from tables to pota loos…. Our friend with a 4×4 was our saviour…We moved in on Thurday setting up tents to sleep in and a huge one was hired from the local village. Around 30 people worked with beer in hand most of the night on Thursday We put up bunting and made hanging flower decorations.

and after a chance meeting with a friend i ended up swapping some hedging plants for his wonderful flags for the day

and so the stage was set and i was sent home with Julian and and the bridesmaids while the groom and many friends finished off the decoration and the food. I have to say i felt blessed to have so many helping hands.

So finally the day dawned..would it rain? would the mud stop Rosie from the big entrance walk she planned? Only time would tell. I arrived first and was blown away by the final preparations…hay had been laid down for her to trail her white dress. The clouds were gathering to the west but the decision had been taken for an outside ceremony and everything looked stunning.

And then the moment had arrived….

first the flower girl and bridesmaids..

as many of you know nothing prepares you for the site of your daughter walking down the aisle with her father…

They both looked radiant as 2 family members conducted the ceremony that the 4 of them had written. There wasnt a dry eye to be seen as they declared their love in front of all who loved them.

The cake was chocolate sponge with white chocolate covering. There was a drama getting up the bumpy track but know one told me till till later…

The rain did start but not till 7pm. I had always worried about her dress if this happened and had planned what to do. The faces of people as i cut the underskirts away and tied ribbons on was soo funny but the end result aloud her to dance the night away in her now wellied feet…

We all had a ball dancing till the sunrise of a lovely day. Rose loved her dress that much, she wore it most of the following day.

and hopefully

happy ever after begins here….x

it was great fun Pimpernel.

my eye fill everytime i think about it Lil.

as for the cake Mavis. chocolate covered cakes dont lend themselves to bumpy tracks. there was a few little cracks in it by the time they negotiated it up the bumpy track. the poor lady who made it was nearly in tears..but it was fine and if like me you didnt know you wouldnt notice.

30 Jun, 2012

I'm adding the blog to GoYpedia Wellies :o)))

30 Jun, 2012

I've been looking forward to seeing this from when you showed us the preparations...........it truly surpassed my expectations simply magical for them

My friend married in wellies....in a very nice lambing shed made beautiful for the occasion.......

30 Jun, 2012

I bet that was a beautifull wedding Pamg, mine was a traditional white wedding, i wish i had the imagination to do something different..
TT, for a second i thought you said, Goypedia Weddings lol.

30 Jun, 2012

Like Pam I've been looking forward to the pictures and they sure exceeded expectaions! Nobody could accuse them of being conventional could they? What a wonderfully happy occasion. Their wedding album will be like no other!

30 Jun, 2012

loving all your comments i'll cant wait to show them to Mr and Mrs Green...yes shes Rosie Green now...

But you would be surprised at how conventional the service was. Uncle Tim and Auntie Mel who were asked to conduct things, were chosen to help keep things as traditional as possible. We sang morning has broken and a hymn from school days, One more step along the road i take with a tear jerking solo of 'You raise me up'. They made every effort to accommodate all the oldies and embrace the traditions of the marriage ceremony. I managed to avoid wellie's and wear my sparkley wedge shoes as did Rosie for the first hour. x

30 Jun, 2012

I`ve been so looking forward to this blog Sandra, its turned out to be as wonderful as you`d described it, so very different from anything one usually see`s, I`m so pleased all went well for you all and wish Rosie and Nick all the best for the future.

30 Jun, 2012

I've been thinking about traditional.....if you went back a few centuries then something similar may have been the norm

1 Jul, 2012

just gorgeous, everything about it.
Have you come down to earth yet?

5 Jul, 2012

it did take a while Resi..and even longer to sort out all the stuff we had to bring home. my patio looked like steptoes yard for a while. but the tents are all now dry and packed away and all the plates and glasses etc washed and stored till the next time....hopefully our youngest Lilly will take a while before she decides to get married.:-)

5 Jul, 2012

i like your daughters having flower names, do you have any boys though??

5 Jul, 2012

5 Jul, 2012

Resi..i had never planted a plant when i had my girls...they are named after my grandmother Rose and Julians grandmother Lillian. my 2 boys are named after their Granddads....David and Jack, Lillys twin.
