I spend a lot of time with you all and I want to say thank you, thank you so much for all the kind comments, the helpful advice and so very many laughs.

This is to say Happy Christmas to you all from me:

I’m cutting this tomorrow ~ help yourself!

[there isnt any icing cos OH doesnt like it so its all made of marzipan and those patches on the cake that look a bit grubby in the photo are actually edible gold glitter ~ sorry it didnt come out well on the photo.]

I hope you enjoyed your early christmas with your sons.
Have a very happy christmas and new year.

17 Dec, 2011

Merry Christmas to you too. Today´s marzipan-cake consumption was I guess a small festival of "the heaven in mouth", wasn´t it? With coffee? Hmmmmmmm.

17 Dec, 2011

how lovely sticki, merry christmas to you and your family and all the very best for 2012, yummy cake :o)) x

17 Dec, 2011

Cake looks lovely Sticki but have to say no thankyou as I also don`t like marzipan, do love icing though, the crunchier the better ..
Merry Christmas to you and looking forward to sharing gardening chatter and lots of happy banter next year...

17 Dec, 2011

You are all so kind, thank you so much.
Think I better make another cake for those of you who don't like marzipan. I also made shortbread biscuits, would that be better?

I really hope you have a very very happy Christmas and a sparkling new year.

17 Dec, 2011

Oh yes ! can I have cake and biscuits Sticki ?

We use to have a pub near hear called the " Land 'o'Cakes" a rough place, no doilies.

18 Dec, 2011

Pimpernel, you made me laugh! There are no doilies under these cakes either!
Love the name of the pub!

18 Dec, 2011

I love marzipan. I was brought up on "Mozart Kugeln", if you know what is it, lol.

18 Dec, 2011

mmmmmmmmmm shortbread!

18 Dec, 2011

happy christmas stickitoffee, and your cake looks delicious! i love marzipan but hate icing also, so it would do nicely for me, i shall just have to imagine what it tastes like:-)) have a lovely christmas holiday:-))

18 Dec, 2011

I'm the only person in our family who likes marzipan, so I miss out a bit there. You can't really ice a C. cake without it, though. My Christmas nibbling usually revolves round industrial amounts of C. cake, crisp celery with salt, stilton, walnuts and pears, all eaten together. mmmmmmm! OOh, forgot chocolate, but that has a place of it's own.

18 Dec, 2011

I have seen the mozart chocolate marzipan in austria and here katarina ~ is that the one?
its going fast pixi!
thank you justdawn, you too!
that plate of celery, salt, stilton walnuts and pears sounds delicious gattina ~ do you have a photo or a painting!!?
and the chocolate ~ oh yes on its own!!!

18 Dec, 2011

Darn! I'd do you a photo, Sticki, but I've just scoffed the last of the celery, so you'll have to wait until I've been to the market tomorrow. OHG has just been very stern with me and said that we mustn't eat any more of our supply of Stilton 'til Christmas, or it won't last, and there won't be any to offer guests. SO? What's your point, OH?

18 Dec, 2011

Sticki that card and cake look wonderful, so kind of you to think of us GoYers like that. Just have to say mmmm shortbread, I'm thinking a nice piece of shortbread with a Baileys hot chocolate. Yummy.

Hope everyone here (and their families and friends) have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy (and healthy) new year. Heres to 2012.

18 Dec, 2011

christmas starts now ~ eat what you like gattina!!!

samjp ~ baileys hot chocolate ~ wonderful idea!!!

18 Dec, 2011

Have a lovely time with your Family Sticki.

18 Dec, 2011

Thank you so much everyone. They seemed to really like the food, which is great.

18 Dec, 2011

mmmm...like the sound of the shortbread (but with the baileys in black coffee, not in hot chocolate like samjp!!)
sorry, not a marzipan fan - it's like marmite isn't it for the love/hate thing??! weird, cos I like almonds...
hope the day went well! :-)
ps the xmas card was fab!!

18 Dec, 2011

Thanks Jeanette, I like marmite too!
Baileys in coffee works for me too, it's also good over ice cream!

19 Dec, 2011

Happy Christmas to you to ST nice cake I like icing but not marzipan.

Baileys my tipple not tried it in coffee must do.

Got to keep some for my Baileys truffles

19 Dec, 2011

ooh they sound nice scotkat, how do you make those?

19 Dec, 2011

I may as well ask my GoY friends, since I am having absolutely no luck here:- Has anyone come across a liqueur called "Frangelico"? It is made in the Piedmont area of northern Italy, and is made from hazelnuts. You would have thought you might have expected to see it on the shelves in this country, but whenever I ask for it, I get blank looks and negative answers. An English friend said she's sure she's seen it in Sainsburys, but now can't find it. Has anyone ever heard of it or seen it? I'm beginning to think I'm going loopy. I'm not a fan of Baileys original, and I never drink coffee, and this sounded rather nice, since I absolutely love hazelnuts. Apart from drinking it, I wanted to make hazelnut truffels.

19 Dec, 2011

Waitrose sell it Gattina

19 Dec, 2011

thats very true pimpernel, i bought some myself and i work there so i ought to know!!!

http://www.waitrosewine.com/230306438/Product.aspx?SearchTerm=frangelico

19 Dec, 2011

Brilliant! I shall send Santa to Waitrose then - he has just about enough time........... Thank you, everyone!

19 Dec, 2011

19 Dec, 2011

Hazelnut truffles sounds good, but my translator did not find what it is in Slovak. Gattina, send sometimes a photo and a recipe, if you want.

25 Dec, 2011

Too late for the photos, Katarina, we've eaten them all! They are just sweets made of white chocolate, cream, chopped roasted hazelnuts and flavoured liqueur. I couldn't get the hazelnut liqueur, so I used apricot liqueur instead. The diet starts some time in January!

25 Dec, 2011

Ooooooh yummy gattina, I had a special little pot for Christmas for melting chocolate!

25 Dec, 2011

Honestly, Sticki, all the rest of the truffles are still in the cupboard - we just ate SO much over the past couple of days, we couldn't manage all of them. The white chocolate ones were just rather tempting, and a girl has to keep her strength up while she's stuffing the turkey, and listening to the carol service from King's College, doesn't she? (helped by everyone else)
Your chocolate pot sounds the first step on the primrose path to temptation!!!!

26 Dec, 2011

One must always keep one's strength up, I heartily agree. Primrose path sounds rather better than the slippery slope!

26 Dec, 2011

There are plenty of those around this bit of the world this morning, Sticki!
p.s. we actually have a primrose in bloom in the garden - or did until the snow arrived yesterday!

26 Dec, 2011

I have one too! But no snow.
I also have fuchsias one of which is growing new shoots and buds all over!
My sons sent a photo of their view from the window, an alpine valley sprinkled in snow and another from the ski slopes with snow covered mountains, I could almost breathe that crisp clear air, it was stunningly beautiful.

26 Dec, 2011

Aren't we lucky?

26 Dec, 2011

Do you think these plants still growing is some sort of a record?

Sons photos and phone calls made my day yesterday.

26 Dec, 2011

Who knows? I think this is going to happen more and more in the future.
Where are your sons? Do they live abroad or are they just there on holiday?

26 Dec, 2011

They normally live in south London and Suffolk but they are spending the week in Morzine, France, it's not far from the Swiss border.
