Six go to Malvern

Perhaps these Gardening Giants [not garden gnomes you will see] started the mood for the day:
Within the shelter of the Malvern hills who should I come across but two of the friendliest people you could possibly meet, how lovely to meet you Poppylover and Willinilli, Cheers!! [great start]
A little further on and we meet 3 more really lovely and also very friendly Goyers
Daylily, Stroller and Bornagain:
I was going to say we got on like a house on fire! But that very nearly describes the somewhat dramatic and hysterical event of the coffee and the forks …..more of that later. What I mean is, we all seemed to get on so well, we had lots to talk about, loads to see, great day, on with the show…
On our way to finding the much needed coffee we spotted a few reminders of our missing friends:
Pixi?
But we also thought they had pinched your Clay model Pix:
I think I should leave Stroller to explain more about Harry Potter!!!
This next picture shows you what a kind and thoughtful person Willinilli is ~ she bought me this ~ never having met me before ~ willinilli ~ you don’t know how true this is: [but thank you so very much]
And onto the coffee:
Admittedly it took a while to find somewhere nice enough and suitable for 6 ladies to have really nice cakes, however we have to confess we did make an impact on our surrounding diners, we chatted and giggled but what really started it was when BA tried so delicately to cut into her cake and the fork broke!!! Yes trouble with the fork handles again………and again………4 forks later and hysterical laughter, I think that was when the first cup of tea went over? Soon followed by a cup of coffee!!
I wish I could have taken photos of the surrounding tables ~ im sure they were ‘longing looks’ of ‘I wish I could be with them’ ~ or was I mistaken?
As I say on with the show!
Mini beast condominium:
It may look like a show garden and to all intents and purposes it is but this is in fact at the front of a stall selling plants ~ wish they could come and make one of these for me:
At this point it was somewhat difficult to move around in a group of six so all the following pictures were just me with the camera but I thought you might like to see a few shots of the show ~ um, sorry, maybe not a few ~ its quite a lot!
Acers through the arch:
Some rather innovative salad growing:
more good ideas for wooden salad?:
One of many school gardens, the children were thoroughly enjoying themselves and doing a very good job of explaining what they had done ~ wish they had more time in schools for this sort of thing [i promise not to go on about that]
And now to more relaxing scenes, I loved this but it hasnt come out so well on the photo, you may have seen it from a different angle on Gardeners World with Monty Don:
And from another angle:
This was a large garden, only about half is shown in this photo ~ room to play?
By now the clouds had gone and the sky was blue ~ so appropriate for a mediterranean garden, beautiful but not suitable for where I live!!
Lulu here is one for you ~ a bling garden!! Actually this was in a little white box ~ no more than 5 foot square:
This was huge but also hard to get a feel of from the photo, I loved the swing ~ was it a good idea to put it over the water? Certainly it always gets muddy under the swing?!
The hills are alive with the sound of……….ringing [tills]
[Lloyd Grossman voice] Now who lives in a garden with this?
One of the beautiful stands, so much work goes into putting these up and they look amazing:
One for you Bampy and Stevie ~ and all the other acer-lovers:
I rather liked this, some things are much too exotic for my garden but i thought this had possibilities:
Jam packed full of plants, quite a celebration:
And now some inside shots, this one from a flower arranging competition:
I really loved this, more for an indoor courtyard perhaps?
Lots of blues ~ Karensusan?
Little snack anyone?
And onto a few more outside gardens, this one is for you Lulu, I loved this and would really love one of those bubbles in my garden [ah well I can dream!!]
I thought this was really clever:
Now into the floral marquee, it was just fabulous, so to start us off this is Vicky on GoY’s stand ~ Plantagogo ~ gold medal ~ richly deserved may I say!
How come my hostas never look like this: [another dream]
One for you Severnside, I loved this:
Beyond the gates, great idea I thought ~ just tempting you in through the gates, is it the not-so-secret garden??
Bit ostrich-like i thought perhaps Meanie would like this one?
Primula heaven:
One for you Sheilabub ~ wish I could have one too!!
A clem star for you Stevie
~ amazing clems:
A riot or feast of colour and plants:
I thought this was rather beautiful but I cant afford it:
This is more my level ~ water feature Stevie and Pimpernel???
And just to finish the day one that sums it up ~ a riot of colour, a celebration of plants and meeting very lovely friends from GoY ~ here’s to meeting up again!
The plan was to meet up again at the end for a cup of tea but I rather suspect the powers that be scuppered that by fixing all the mobile phones ~ they wouldnt work!!! I rather think after our first visit to the coffee and cakes perhaps we were banned? Never mind its made me more determined to meet up again.

Brilliant blog Sticki! Ty so much, you took so many more photos than I managed. I was a bit sidetracked looking at all the lovely plants. Willi and I didnt manage to see the gardens, but in all I think you really captured the essence of the show. Im adding this blog to my favourites now, so I can relive it. It was lovely to meet up with other Goyers. I feel I know you all really well now.

I wish I had been there :) What a great blog, I could feel the atmosphere through your lovely photos and I had to join in the giggles over the fork handles and spilt tea (no point crying over it!). I particularly liked the 'ostriches', the blue pots, the heuchera stand - well, all of it really - fantastic, Sticki :)
13 May, 2012
Well done Sticki, you really have captured the show perfectly, Beautiful, fun, busy & expensive day, Lol.
I knew you would find your way back to that bread stand, did you buy any?
So much to look at, im gonna go put the dinner on then come back to graze over the beautiful photos once again.
You can have a rest now, Lol.

That is just THE most excellent blog, Sticki . . . if there was a Gold Medal for blogs, you deserve it!! You captured the show so well . . . OH and I loved the children's Magical Tump Garden too; and were bemused by the swing over the water; and loved the insect condo and the show gardens, and the Acer stands and the bonsais (thank you for mine!).
Glad you all had such a treat of a day - and what a treat for us too, to share it with you. Brill :))
13 May, 2012

Thank you for a lovely blog.
13 May, 2012
Great blog of a wonderful day. I knew the girl giant in pic #1 ten years ago, she runs a collective of varied entertainers doing such like.
Love the conifer display, nicely done. Thanks for the thought Stik.
13 May, 2012
I feel that I,ve been to the show Sticki........how did you recognise each other?.....
13 May, 2012
Sticki, great blog, I feel as though I was at a different show (apart from knocking my tea over and breaking the fork) We missed so much, but it's all here on your blog and your pics are as always superior. Where were all those beautiful breads? Never saw those either. I could have taken some home, I was starving! You ought to have a medal for being first as well as Sheila's award:-)
13 May, 2012
Yup..Champion Blogging Sticki, quite a few pics to take in there. I really like the conifer garden and the one you called an indoor courtyard. bread looks good as well.
13 May, 2012
Many thanks Sticki for your tour around Malvern [much better than Monty;s] Wonderful to meet up with Goy friends and have a giggle and a chat! the show looks fantastic like you sasy a riot of colour and beautiful plants hard to choose a favourite but I think for me it has to be the Acer show just Gorgeous;0))

13 May, 2012
Thankyou for sharing your day at Malvern Sticki, you all had a great time by the sounds of it, the pics are lovely, I'm pleased the weather was good as it makes all the difference, so many to choose from but Vickys Heuchera's and the gorgeous Acers has to be my choice for favs...
13 May, 2012
What an amazing blog, and such lovely pics. Shame about the cake being so hard it broke the forks lol. Looks like you had a fabulous day I'm sure all of us that didn't go are truly envious. Gorgeous.....:)))))
13 May, 2012
eeehhhh - wish I could go.... Maybe next year. Blog is fantastic Sticki - wonderfull pictures and lots of fun:)
Thank you for sharing:)
13 May, 2012
What a super blog Sticki...thank you for showing us around. It certainly sounds like you all had a great day -despite to fork handles! :))))
I don't think I have a favourite picture - they are all lovely.
Pleased you showed at picture of the little pond...I've just bought myself a little preformed 'puddle' - I am very betwix and between on what I want to do with it.
I have however - been up to the local quarrie (my neighbour is the manager) this afternoon and picked up some stone - so that's a start!
Once again - well done - agree with Sheilabub ''Gold Medal'' Blog award for Sticki :)
13 May, 2012
that was wonderful Sticki, lovely pics and thanks for the walk round, :-)
13 May, 2012
Oh my goodness! I don't know what to say! You are all too kind, thank you, but it's really a pleasure putting photos on for you, it was a really lovely day and now you have all added to it!
It did take a while GM, in fact longer than it took poppylover and willinilli to drive back to Kent!
Willinilli I was tempted by the bread but didn't buy any, something in a bottle took my pennies instead!
I only bought 5 plants gattina, most expensive was the heuchera at £6 or was it £8, but I wanted that cos it was from plantagogo.
Nothing Pam - honestly! It was just great fun. Easy to recognise poppylover and willinilli the only twins with orange baskets! But I had already met Ba, Stroller and Daylily in different places before!
The breads were in some kind of shed building Ba, near the flower arranging? And the fuchsia society, weeding
was there too.
Kasy - next year definitely!
Scottish I'm very interested in your puddle! Please tell me more!
Severn, how amazing! Was she just as tall then?
13 May, 2012
I hope 7 says no....she was a tiny giant back then.
13 May, 2012
i wonder where they live? London's new Shard??
13 May, 2012
What a brilliant blog...your happiness and giggles came through and were infectious! :))
13 May, 2012
infectious is the right word karen, thank you ~ we all giggled helplessly!!!
13 May, 2012
It's a tiny little preformed pond...only holds 18 gallons. I want to make it in one of the corners surrounded by ferns, hostas and other foliage plants. I have been lusting after a pond like Mossy's - all foliage very little flower. Of course I do not possess the knowledge to create such a masterpiece - not to mention the budget...but I will be happy if I can get something along those lines. It's final positioning is what is causing me the headache. If I put it near the electric source in the garden - it will get too much sun and the hostas and ferns won't like it. If I need to run a solar pump I would need to mount it high enough so it gets the sun over the 6ft high fence. I don't know how practical it would be without a pump. I need to go to the question page and ask!!! I also think 4 plants max - in the pond, as it is so small I need to make sure I choose well!
13 May, 2012
hmmmm very interesting, i see the problem ~ it would be the same here except that i dont have a problem with too much sun!!
mossy's garden is just wonderful isnt it, i really love it. i will be interested to hear if you get a solar pump and how well it works.
13 May, 2012
I've asked the question Sticki so will see what replies I get and will of course do a blog with pictures :)
13 May, 2012
yes please, definitely looking forward to seeing that ~ good luck!!
13 May, 2012
There was such a lot there to see, and nice for you to meet some other GoY friends :o)
13 May, 2012

13 May, 2012

16 May, 2012
Brilliant blog sticki. Looks like you all had a great time. So disappointed I missed it. I had planned on comming but with the move I may have forgotten about it :-s. oh well there's always next year eh.
Love the show gardens, some great ideas in there. Much better tour than monty's :)
20 May, 2012
you are too kind sam, thank you and yes please ~ do come next year!!!!
how did the move go???
20 May, 2012
Definitely next year although you may have to remind me lol
Pretty good thanks. Got the bulk of it in a van (driving that was an experience lol) just a couple more trips with the car before coming back from work (I work by my parents). Been so busy these last couple weeks cleaning everything, decorating bedrooms and work (driving stupid distances now). Just started to find time to get on GoY again missing you guys. Am dying to get in the garden now. Fingers crossed for good weather on sat do I can put some plants in at mom and dads.
Everything ok with you?
20 May, 2012
Im sure there will be reminders on here Sam!!!
maybe you have just timed it right ~ got the move over and then a bit of sun for you to go in the garden??
20 May, 2012
Ooh I hope so. It's been so nice today such a nice change. Just a shame I'm stuck at work lol.
21 May, 2012
oh no! are you working all week?
21 May, 2012
Yep, no time off now until the jubilee. You watch the weather go nasty the second I have time off lol. Really hopes its dry while I'm off I really want to get the front garden sorted out. I've not had chance to do anything since I got the first bit of lawn up :( Grass is getting stupidly long now.
27 May, 2012
I hope you get good weather too, its so frustrating isnt it?
27 May, 2012
When are the Jubilee celebrations? Will it be a bank holiday? I'm gearing up for a lot of incredibly boring television coverage.
As for the Olympics - well, on 26th July I've booked in to a desert island with no television or newspapers, but a big pile of books. OH will be here, closed in a baking hot darkened room with the television and a stack of beer, and I shan't. I'm already bored to tears by coverage of the progress of the flame. It'll be far too hot to do much serious gardening. Maybe I shall just drift around in white linen, a big hat and a load of sun cream, drinking iced lemonade for a fortnight, doing sweet Fanny Adams.
28 May, 2012
Looking at the weather forecast its cooling down so that byfriday it could be 15c....
We've a friend whose boat is one of the Dunkirk little ships in the Pageant on sunday that,. I think,. Will be worth watching
28 May, 2012
That's fabulous pam
I have no idea about the jubilee celebrations, there is an extra bank holiday and the queen is having a garden party, a social trifle has been created and I had a go at making similar, it is really very nice.
Olympics, I shall be glued! I love it! Been out to see the flame too, which was great fun ( I hate to think of the money that's been spent though)
28 May, 2012
Its the Jubilee this weekend Gattina. We've got Monday as the 2nd May Day and then Tuesday as an extra bank holiday for the Jubilee. Not sure exactly when the jubilee is though lol.
We've not got anything planned for the Jubilee, my cousin was talking about throwing a party in her new flat, but I'm guessing she thought the better of it (she only moved in Monday lol).
Ugh the torch relay is already driving me mad. I didn't dare drive home after work Wednesday because most of the roads were closed in Stafford for the relay - went to see my nan for a few hours instead. Plus when the relay is in Sandwell, I've ended up working. I suppose I will at least get to see the relay so thats something.
Something tells me I'm not going to get the garden done this week :( weather forecast is horrible. Blinking typical once again gorgeous weather while I'm stuck at work, the second I have time off the heavens open.
Hope you have a good long weekend - despite the weather.
3 Jun, 2012
its rained all weekend i think here, sam!!
the torch was good to watch in droitwich, had to wait a while for it to arrive!
3 Jun, 2012
Shame about the weather. I wonder how many street parties have got rained out.
I'm glad you enjoyed seeing the torch relay. I'm half looking forward to it (despite having to work) just hope its a nice day for it :S
3 Jun, 2012
it was sweltering hot the day i saw it!!
i imagine quite a few street parties got wet, i just hope they had a plan B!!
3 Jun, 2012
I like him, very talented, wouldn't mind one myself:-)
4 Jun, 2012
Sorry Ba, I'm lost, who do you like? And what wouldn't you mind having?
Sorry Pamg, missed your comment, I watched some of that pageant, how fabulous to know someone in it. There were some great stories from some of those little ships.
4 Jun, 2012
Nice day for those of you watching the relay, probably not so great for the runners lol. The day it came to Stafford I think they were quite lucky, it absolutely threw it down by my moms but my OH said they didn't get any rain. I got drenched running to my car from the office (and I waited for the worst of the rain to go over - I swear there was a mini ocean complete with waves in the one drain lol).
4 Jun, 2012
one day i was walking along the road, there was a large puddle near a drain that wasnt working too well ~ you guessed a car went right through the middle of it ~ soaked me!!!
4 Jun, 2012
wow loved this blog and it is so nice to put some faces to names. wonderfull pics too glad you all had fun. The cake looked yummy xx
4 Jun, 2012
thanks jewells, thought you might like to join in!!??
4 Jun, 2012
Ooops all but guaranteed really isn't it, where theres a puddle theres bound to be a car comming. When I was in high school we used to get the bus from the bottom of the road from where the school was. But it was the valley of 3 hills. On the one side the road used to flood completely when we'd had heavy rain. I remember the one day 2 of my friends were walking past as the bus came down. The wave litterally went over their heads, they couldn't have got much wetter if they'd tried lol. Felt really sorry for them, but it was funny.
5 Jun, 2012
oh sorry i had to laugh, thats terrible. was that on the way to school or on the way home?
these days it would be on youtube!!!!
5 Jun, 2012
Plan B Sticki:-)
5 Jun, 2012
its a long way back up this blog to find plan A or B!!!!!!!!!!
5 Jun, 2012
But worth the journey:-) You asked what I was talking about:-)
5 Jun, 2012
I know but i cant remember where i or you said about a plan B ~ was that another blog???
5 Jun, 2012
Lol sticki, I laughed at the time and they were my friends (saying that so did everyone else standing at the bus stop - laugh that is lol). Luckily they were on their way home and they didn't live that far away. Really wish I could have filmed it lol.
BA do you mean plan B for the next Malvern visit (after the "powers than be scuppered the mobile phones") or plan B for the people holding street parties in the rain? Or is it a totally different plan b. Lol keep typing plant instead of plan :S freudian slip maybe?!?!
9 Jun, 2012
Lol Sam I thought sticki was saying they could do with Plan B to cheer up the street parties, I wouldn't mind him at one of mine as I'm something of a fan:-)
10 Jun, 2012
I was close then lol. Forgot about Plan B (not really sure how), he would definately cheer things up a fair bit :))
11 Jun, 2012
Brilliant blog, no need to go to the shows with the coverage you have given it, how lovely to meet up with all those lovely GOYers, a great entertaining blog.....
19 Jun, 2012
oh, thank you DD, you are kind!! also cheaper to read about shows than attend!!!
it was really good fun and i hope we can do it again, if you are coming up this way ~ the more the merrier!!!
19 Jun, 2012
oh, that was lovely, thanks so much for sharing. lol lost for words beyond that!
20 Jun, 2012
it was a great time fran, glad you enjoyed it.
20 Jun, 2012
Thanks for the offer, too far now that we are down south.....
20 Jun, 2012
That's a shame DD.
21 Jun, 2012

How wonderful Sticki to meet up with Goy friends and at a flower show too. Your blog is brilliant must have taken you ages to upload! I really love that stone with the bee tubes in it and the bug hotel just fab. Could picture the scene in the coffee/cake tent!! Lol.
