CASTLE ASHBY GARDENS

Yesterday, the Castle Ashby Church Fête and Fun Dog Show took place in the beautiful Italian Gardens.
After so many weeks of rain, miraculously, the weather stayed dry, with some glimpses of sunshine !
…………………………………………………..
Castle Ashby is the ancestral home of the 7th Marquess of Northampton.
The 25 acres of extensive gardens are in the heart of a 10,000 acre estate.
Before the dog show began, I had the chance of a quick walk around with Conker, and I took some snap-shots.
…………………………………………………..
Not enough time to visit areas such as the Rainbow Border, Maltese Cross Garden, Arboretum and Farmyard.
…………………………………………………..
However, I took a look at the gift shop and Garden Centre with a tea room alongside.
The plants for sale are in quite a small area, but there are annuals, roses, herbs and perennials such as heucheras.
…………………………………………………
The Italian Gardens have neat topiary and lovely lawns.
…………………………………………………
The Butterfly Garden and Fuchsia House
The Fuchsia House is an old Grade 1 listed building.
Home to over 180 varieties of Fuchsia.
I would like to return and see more of those.
……………………………………………………
The Orangery
This building dates back to 1872 and was designed by architect Matthew Digby.
It has a large, central pond, home to around 150 goldfish.
Can you see the Border Collie, sniffing the flower trough, with owner unaware, busy investigating the food !
…………………………………………………
There are many open areas with spacious lawns
…………………………………………………
The dog show was starting …
… time to move on …
…………………………………………………
Conker competed in the Tricks Class and won first prize
…………………………………………………
Back home with our prizes, the rain is pouring down again.
Truffle is always ready to help Conker eat the goodies !
………………………………………………….
When I have more time, and more good weather, I would like to visit the Castle Ashby gardens again.
I hope you enjoyed this short tour.

Lovely gardens. And what a beautiful custom to let people park for free, lol. If it was closer, I would join both of you. Most of all I like Conker, as he was on each of your photos sitting modestly in a distance and waiting for you. What a lovely and wise dog!
What a pitty, you did not make photos of other competitors, lol. Maybe you said it, but I do not understand, what was Conker´s winning trick? :)))))
11 Jun, 2012
Hi Katarina.
Parking was free, but it was a very LONG walk to the dog show !
Conker did his Supernanny tricks routines.
You can see some of these on this blog ...

11 Jun, 2012
Hi Karen ... Thanks... The old buildings, including the glasshouses are very impressive :o)
11 Jun, 2012
TT, your blog reminded me. I would like to 'train' Molly to hold something in her mouth the way Conker and Truffle do. Can you p.m me please with some tips ....we had a few chewed rose stems the other night and absolutely no success....just a very confused little dog!
11 Jun, 2012
Lovely blog, TT! Conker looks almost forlorn in some of the distant photos! The gardens look fabulous & I'd like to visit them some day!
I found the information on the butterflies very interesting! Reminded me of my Cambridge Botanical Garden blogs where I took photos of the information boards & put them in my blog.
I'm with Hywel, I'd really have loved to be able to visit the Fuchsia house!
Well done to Conker for winning First Prize in the dog show once again!
11 Jun, 2012
Hello Balcony ..

12 Jun, 2012
Well done Conker! And back in the blogs with a bang, Terra!! :)))
How beautiful it all is...but, I think I need an orangerie like that, now...
Probably for the best that it's unattainable...lol
You might have to open a dog training school, Terra...I've got an out of control Pyrenean Shepherd arriving home on Saturday!
12 Jun, 2012
Hello Karen ...
I guess lots of window-cleaning in Castle Ashby ;o)
Good luck with your canine control ..
I hope your doggie arrives home safely ... :o)))
12 Jun, 2012
Yup, you're right...and I have enough trouble getting around to the windows I've got...
It's another Lagos to Paris, via Nairobi trip...let's hope the flight actually takes off this time...Sadie isn't good natured like Satchmo... :(
12 Jun, 2012
Can't believe i missed this and its only a short drive away !! We shall make it a priority to visit this summer Terra ....and congratulations to Conker :-)))
12 Jun, 2012
Hi Susie ..
The show didn't seem especially well advertised. The gardens are vast, so plenty to see !
Conker enjoyed performing his tricks. The crowd around the show-ring really appreciated his routines ! ... and Truffle is appreciating the goodies won. Lol. :o)))
12 Jun, 2012
