BRANCHES EVERYWHERE

Wonderful winter trees …

……………………………………………………………..

Among the evergreens …
… a silver birch … bare but beautiful …

………………………………………………………………

… a magnet for birds …

………………………………………………………………

The highest branches are a perfect place for personal preening …
… don’t forget to check under your wings !

………………………………………………………………

… but if you are chubby … choose a thicker branch …

………………………………………………………………

Spot the sparrow … odd one out …

…………………………………………………………….

Spot the stranger … the Redwing is a newcomer …

…………………………………………………………….

A speckled chest is pretty … and ideal for camouflage …

……………………………………………………………..

If you feel chilly, try flying south to the sun …

………………………………………………………………

To pose for a portrait … choose the Garrya elliptica …

………………………………………………………………

… or for lunchtime nibbles … snack on a Viburnum …

……………………………………………………………..

Prefer more privacy ? … there’s Armandii or Berberis …

……………………………………………………………..

… and if you’re brave and bright … sing your song …

……………………………………………………………..

… later on, you can always chill out in the bushes …

… and get ready to party …

……………………………………………………………..

This is a lovely blog Tt......gorgeous huge silver birch and the pendula type which is what we are planning on buying to hide those sat dishes. I shall be feeding and feeding and feeding them till they are Sky high....:)). Don't the birds just love them too, the last pic of the Robin is fantastic...clever you! I think I like the birches better in winter than in summer leaf!

Wonderful Terra - such well captured pictures - I love birds so to my favourites :-))))

18 Dec, 2012

The Silver Birch looks really lovely with the blue sky, they are all great photographs Terra but the ones of the cheeky Robin have to be my favourites, I can never resist the Robin, you did well to get the Redwing, delighted to say the Greenfinches have made a comeback here and the amount of Sparrows is unbelievable when I think back a couple of years and was lucky to see even one.......

18 Dec, 2012

That last photo is special Terra! :) Is it unusual to see a single Redwing? I've only ever seen them in flocks during very cold weather....or perhaps I saw fieldfares...not sure of the difference. I couldn't believe what I saw today though....in my garden...a butterfly!

really lovely Terra, love the silver birches my fav tree :-) love all the bird pics i can never really get them..

19 Dec, 2012

Lovely photo's Terra, the birds are well trained to pose in your garden. :o)

We had to take a birch down as it was too near the house(previous owners) and pushing up the paving slabs, but by then it had set seed all over the place, its offspring, planted out for the millenium now tower gracefully further away.....

I think you are probably too cold for fieldfare and redwing Karen, they fly down from Scandinavia, if it gets bad here in the midlands then they go even further down the country,

19 Dec, 2012

Pam, how could you say I am too cold? ;) lol! No, indeed, we often see them in the fields around here in the winter :)

19 Dec, 2012

lovely pictures, TT - loved the robin especially. Oh, I do envy you living where so many birds come by

19 Dec, 2012

Lovely set of photos, TT, and I really envy you those blue skies. The skies here are as grey as my hair! I agree with everyone else, that last photo is a competition winner, brilliantly caught.

19 Dec, 2012

After seeing this, I spent a lot longer than usual just looking at the garden's trees and the birds feeding.
The difference was that here the skies were grey but it was still beautiful and satisfying to watch. Thanks for persuading me to stop for a few moments!

Another lovely blog, TT! I also though the Silver Birch was really great, it stands out so well against the winter skies! I've also noticed before now that it is a favourite tree for many kinds of birds.

You are so good at getting those really good close ups of the birds! We got a new camcorder for Christmas from our daughter & her partner & I was trying the photo mode this morning. I tried taking photos of different things I could see from sitting here at the computer. It has 4x zoom so I tried photographing the same objects at each of the zoom points - only it doesn't quite work like that & I could only get 3 zooms of each object. Enough to let me know they are a total waste of time any further than 2x! I haven't tried the same process outdoors but I can't imagine the photos turning out any better!

All the above just to say I could never take photos of the birds from far away with a zoom as you did as they would turn out all blurry!

Just to finish, like almost everyone else who has commented, I love the photo of the Robin as well! :-))

26 Dec, 2012

Thanks Balcony ...
It is usually a matter of chance if my photos come out nicely ! ...
Glad you like the robin pic.
Happy Gardening in 2013 :o)))
